LETTER: Flying the flag - it's a matter of respect

As a six-year veteran of the Marine Corps, I am proud of my service to our country. I display our colors with pride and am thankful of those who joined me in the military. You will also find the emblems of our Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps on the posts as you enter our store. If I had a fifth post, I would likewise recognize the Coast Guard.

Canada and Mexico are our neighbors and steadfast allies. I display the flag of Mexico out of respect for half of our customers who are Hispanic. I also display the flag of Canada alongside our American flag as a welcome to our visitors from the north who chose our community to spend their winter and dollars.

What I don't understand is why someone whom I've known for 30 years or so prefers to vent their displeasure in the paper as opposed to talking with me in person.

Semper Fi!

@ Blythe gal you are correct there is a specific way to fly the American flag. I have friends and family who have served in the military who explained there is a specific etiquette when it comes to flying our flag. I did not realize this was Mr. Cusick's business in question. I respect Wayne as I have known him since I was a kid working for him at Chevron and do not think he would have intentionally offended anyone. Being from a Military back ground I am sure he knows the correct way to honor those who have served and died for our freedoms. I hope this has already been corrected out of respect.

Proper flying is hanging the USA flag first and then the others Country / Countries on a different pole, lower than the USA flag.
Look up how to fly an American Flag.

One might also note that they are not really flags. Just emblems or icons.
