BLYTHE - With a 3-2 vote, Blythe City Council appointed Frank Luckino as Interim City Manager effective Oct. 15 at a Friday night special meeting.

Vice Mayor Sam Patel, Mike Evans, and Wayne Cusick (via phone) voted in favor of Luckino while Mayor Oscar Galvan and Joey DeConinck voted for Mallory Sutterfield to get the position.

Luckino is the city's current finance director. Sutterfield has served as interim city manager since David Lane's retirement and subsequent paid voluntary leave Oct. 2. Before that date, Sutterfield was the city manager's assistant. She has also served as city clerk since 2009.

The night's vote included appointments for Sutterfield to Interim Assistant City Manager and Christa Elms to Assistant Finance Manager.

Each appointment means each person will receive a five percent pay raise for the duration of appointment for an approximate cost of $11,000 to the city.

Each appointment is good through the end of June 2014 with the stipulation that the council can change its mind at anytime.

Luckino has more experience in management and city councilman.Mallory is just getting started and when the city files for bankruptcy she won't be the one to carry blame on her shoulders. If she would of lost to another Blythian for example her relative Jenifer Welman what would be argued?

Isn't it ironic that since Evans, Patel, and Cusick got on the Council they have constantly critized the former council members for the decisions they made in the weeks leading up to an election. Evans has been particularly vocal about being saddled with their decisions, and now these three do the exact same thing. Take a good look Blythe voters....you have a chance to get rid of Patel in this election and even though we will be stuck with Evans and Cusick for a few more years it will be a start.

@ I'm shocked. this is not the first time i warned people about this person, a few months back i also mention his passed.

This person, and another person, that I also asked people to look into their pass, but I was told, that I was crazy. That the other person I was talking about, was not the same person. Only time will tell.

I will not say where this other person works, or their name. Even if he was featured here on the paper. Since they will just deleted it, and accused me of attacking this person.

The thing with the City Council is how do they vet a person? Do they do a background check? What about his other places of employment? Or is it done by the good old boy standard? As thing have always have been done here.

Congratulations Frankie!!! Glad to see they could spell your name right this time. You'll be great in the job and move Blythe forward. Mallory was Lane's right hand for five years and she's picked up all his rude habits. It's time for the city to move in a new direction, not continue down the path to ruin the Lane/Sutterfield consortium was leading us towards. Sure hope I don't get deleted for using a big word like "consortium" just because the publisher doesn't have a clue what it means.

First off Mallory has shown every time something comes her way that she is up for the job. Secondly, she has been working at the city for a lot longer time than Mr Luckino that has been here for a little over 3 months. So who has more experience in regards to managing our town?

I hate to admit it but I actually followed the advice of El Pica Buyas and did an internet search of our new interim city manager and was shocked. Everyone needs to read up on this guy and the baggage that he left Yucca Valley with. I will be calling everyone I know in Yucca Valley next week to find out more. How does our council put this man running the show in Blythe, much less have him hired for anything period? Please people do your own google search on the man.

Apparently the plan (for Luckino anyway) to resign from Hi-Desert W/D and come to Blythe. To quote Luckino: "This is a step toward the goal of city management." Wow, that goal was met with the greatest of ease. Congrats! I guess it is who you know. Sorry Mallory. He had the goal and you are from Blythe. WE constantly get city management from out of town. Guess it shows no one can do the job, but you keep on hiring out-of-towners. This city could have had a chance with someone from Blythe. Mallory didn't get a chance.

Hopefully I can add some clarity to facts and post political observations that make sense. Too often the truth is hard to see, when masked by 'Cronyism'. We've known someone for what seems like forever, and we don't recognize that we are under their 'Spell, and Influence' We blindly follow, and are all too willing to accept their actions and words. What does the 'Truth' really look like!
Let's try to see what the truth is, and how we are led astray by the agenda of others. Let's see why people follow someone even when the direction and destination are harmful. Can you be manipulated by what others say, or are you able to look at the facts and make your own decisions? This election cycle is far too IMPORTANT to not pay attention. You are being led to the slaughter, and willingly headed to destruction. More to follow...

Its s blessing Mallory was not chosen. She is educated but has not enough time working there. She is so young only to end up jaded early in life. Politics are ugly.

Be careful, there. You people rave on and on about not "convicting" Salohlbei before the trial. And now YOU are doing the same thing. If you would just LISTEN and HEAR what is said, you would fare better in your decisions. You said that the candidates said, "hiring from within is the best choice when possible." That is all you heard. Now, you could read that they are saying that Mallory is NOT the best choice, so they selected yet another "out-of-towner", and therefore a "clear" slap in the face to Blythe citizenry. That is the natural conclusion, if you are emotionally involved. But, when you take what you choose out of context, you just might have come to a conclusion other than is the true one. At the candidates' meeting, one of the questions was also, "Can you keep a confidence?" Good and important question. All candidates basically answered "yes". Any person in such a position HAS to be able to keep confidences, not meaning the same thing as "secrets", which lead to dishonesty, and bad leadership. Go back over the meeting on Friday, which most people did not attend. Other important things were said at that meeting which, had you been really listening, would reveal another "possible" interpretation. However, the people who thrive on emotionalism to accomplish their agenda will help to jump on that old bandwagon called "revenge", and they will try to convince others to vote their way. This is one of the reasons we are in trouble in this town. We don't find out things by being THERE we just rely on someone's spewing what they chose to hear. Be careful about what you hear and then make a reasonable decision as to the rationale behind those opinions BEFORE you fall prey to those with selfish and and biased emotional agendas. Let us stop the elections we've had so many of where candidates are selected for "popularity" rather than ability. They do that in high school elections.

If I'm reading this correct. It was mentioned to hire within to fill positions at the forum. Suterfield was promoted to Assistant City Manager and the Finance Director Mr. Luckino to City Manager. I would have to say that is hiring within and it sounds like there will be a significant savings from the previous manager. I say hats off to Patel, Cusick and Evans

Hey people! You all ever hear of a person called Fast Eddie Frank Luckino????????

Well Google him, and read it all very well. And then vote the sitting council members out.

Remember when i said do not blame Lane, for the things he has not done, or did for himself, and friends. But blame the people that hired him, and are his bosses.

So what is that saying about the definition of insanity????? Or about not learning about passed mistakes, and history keeps repeating it self.

This city Council is like a Box of Chocolates. You know what i mean Vern?
