Blythe courthouse to close
The Blythe Courthouse will be closed.
The Blythe Courthouse will be closed.

Marty Bachman

Employees of the Riverside Superior Court were notified on May 17 that the Blythe Courthouse will be closed. The memorandum, issued by Court Executive Officer Sherri R. Carter, stated that due to the Governor's revised 2013-14 California state budget, no additional funds were to be provided to the state's judicial branch.

"This means that ongoing budget reductions to the trial courts will remain at $475 million, with Riverside's share at over $20 million," Carter said in her memo. "...despite all our efforts, these ongoing budget reductions are too large to sustain without additional measures."

Carter said that courthouse staff reductions currently being implemented would continue and that further reductions to public services are also in the works.

"How these court closures will impact staff has not been determined and will be discussed with the Unions once the decisions have been finalized," Carter wrote. "This is a sad period for the California judiciary."

Carter said that while there is still time for the Legislature to provide additional funding to the judiciary in its final budget in June, it is not feasible for the court to wait until that time to try and address the large deficit currently projected.

No date was given for when the closure would take effect.

@ El Pica, you know your history of Blythe, I give you that, and the 70's were the good ol days, now I want to say something out of love, not just to you, but to all people, if you are lonely or not in love, find someone, if its boredom you have, find something that you can love and or do- that you can be passionate about, an old saying goes, if life gives you lemons, than you can make some lemonade. Pay it forward, life is what you make it, don't worry -be happy!

@I just saying, and I don't think so. One and the same. Do you remember Uncle Ben's Store on E Rice and 2nd St. Also a little Liquor Store on hobsonway and Commercial. They were there in the 70's. Plus you had numerous grocery Stores here in Blythe. We did not have the Prisons or many new homes here, Some Apartments not many. Most if not all building were occupied. So what happen here? In that time frame, we had way less people, than now. Big and small businesses have come and gone, but more have gone. Blythe will never die, that is true. because we have people coming from the East and West. But for the people living here, it's way passed dead.

@ I don't think so. Ha ha ha! You tipped your hand. Or should I say, @ I just saying. So don't hate me Bro's. Regardless of your love or hate for me. Sooner or later you will have to face the truth. I'm not the only one saying this. Blythe is Dying. So do I want it to die? No. So I say what can one man or woman do? You say. Spend your money here. I say, Why. Why should I line the pockets of the people with gold, since they are the ones that are killing Blythe. Since all they care for is their pocket books. So Bro, they should spread the Love. So you say. (I don t think so), and then you say. I'(m just saying.)

@Elpica how do u expect this town to grow when all r on welfare. How can they support growth when they and u get free money. You can't use a EBT to go to the movies. The youth learn from there parents about Welfare its a way of life for them. Thats how there brought up instead of bettering themselves. They choose to follow there footsteps. You go to the store and they ask you if you buy me some alcohol I will let you spend monies on my EBT card. It's ridiculous!!!

Say Bro, I don't hate you, but you shouldn't make fun of, this is no laughing matter-that's all bro, nothing more nothing less than that. As for this town dying, no Bro, this town will never ever die. People us the words ghost town too loosely, will we ever grow, probably not, but to say we need new blood in city hall,
again bro,no dice, these words I have heard over and over, and nothing changes. Just the way of the Blythians, l like your enthusiasm bro

Really Jere, If I could answer your question, I would. I looked into roof top solar. For a grid that would do me any good, the company wants $50,000, a bit more than I can chew.
Just today in the news "global warming" isn't happening. Too much CO-2 they say. The healthiest plants in Blythe are planted and kept along Hobsonway and they flourish along our freeways and highways they flourish and are partially watered from the contaminated water that runs of the roads and streets when it rains. IF CO-2 was a problem the plants would all be dead and nothing living within 1000 years of the highways and street. There, now you have your own scientific evidence that the environment isn't the problem. I don't know where you have been, but the businesses that are leaving say they are leaving because they can't compete with such stringent environmental regulations. You are welcome. Jere

Destroyed by enviromentalism? Bahahahaha...so Deep Water Horizon was just nourishment for the sea? You probably consider massive solar plant footprints as desert ornaments? Why don't we do rooftop solar? European countries are doing it right. Why don't the power companies let people feed into the grid and earn money? Why not Jere?

@I'm just saying. I did not attack you all I did was ask a question, as to why you hate people on Welfare. They are low income most people here are of low income, me I'm low income. The only people making more than low income are the people that work for Federal, State, county, and City. I guess that would include All Law Enforcement, Post office, All people working for the Education system, Hospital and City. What does it come out too? About 1000 people or more? OK let's say 2000 people. out of 20,000 Residents here, That's 10 percent of the population. So where is Blythe going to get Tax money from? Property Tax. Well my guess is taxing all Businesses and they in-turn get that money from us. Blythe is like that snake that is eating itself from the tail up. Maybe if we had more businesses here we would have more competition and lower prices and there would be more sales, means more money. Like I said only people with money will make money here. So who's in charge here? The one in charge here go's by the name, Greed. Mr. Greed decides who can open a business or not. It's Mr Greed That is KILLING BLYTHE. Blythe started dying about 30 years ago. Way before California started to go down hill. Mr.Greed is a group of people that does not want Blythe to grow or prosper. It's like that saying. It's better to rule in Hell. Than to serve in Heaven.

My gosh why the panic? As we read about all that is transpiring regarding the closing of the courthouse here in Blythe let us keep our wits about us. There has been no mention of the police station closing it's doors so why open that can of worms? Somewhere down the line the ball was dropped and it was not retrieved as it should've been. However the decision has been made because of this one problem which was not addressed in a timely manner. I am no expert in politics, however if I read the comment on why the courthouse will be closing it s doors.....money, money, money. Somewhere , Somehow budgets were not kept under a dicipline measure and now we are at a crossroad which we must cross, but without the blaming and pointing of fingers. This my dear concerned fellow bloggers will get no end results except to make warfare on your health, is it worth the negative energy spew? I think not. Fear in and of itself will create havoc, I for one do not chose to take that route. Stay strong and remember to ''PRAY''

California voters have to cut the # of legislators and the salaries of the politicians who are left and reduce their work time to 6 months every other year. That will keep the courts open. and then the politicians will actually have to find a job that has to deal with all the stupid rules and regs they enacted. CA needs a part time legislature - that way politicians won't have time to run us into the ground, & when they are in session - maybe they will actually take care of the peoples business. Voters need to change priorities - we do not need to feed every illegal or person who comes here to get free goodies or vote yes for every spending bill put on the voting ballot. Tell your politicians that we need police, firefighters, courts and NOT WELFARE IDIOTS, INMATES, ILLEGALS, STEM CELL RESEARCH! Quit voting for dumbocrats, like Manual Perez who gives away our hard earned money - they have ruined cali, they can't stop spending on stupidity. Same with the national vote - the dems are ruining america most people can't figure out why we are going bankrupt and won't put the blame where it is due - the democratic party believes it is right to take money from hard working people and give it to undeserving con's the republican party believes everyone should have the same opportunity to make a good life and be free to make your own success or not - it's your choice. The dems have given us no choice and we are headed for big problems

Funny - u must one of the dems who keep saying we can pay for all the stupidity - one of moonbeams fan's. He's only doing it now because there is NO MONEY LEFT after he PAID BACK ALL HIS FAVORS TO THE UNIONS, LATINOS, WELFARE TAKERS, INMATES, ETC. Guess who pay's? the union workers (not the union), the businesses, the taxpayers who paid for the courthouse. Guess who wins - inmates, welfare idiots, illegals, all the people WHO DON'T PAY for the Courthouse!! Democrat politicians who voted themselves a raise, moonbeam & legislators still get their salary and benefits, there is still courthouses open where they live - they don't care about the people who pay their salaries. Do u really think they care that we have to drive 100 miles one way in the heat? NO
