LETTER: Reader not happy with today's America

My country has evolved in my lifetime it seems. Things are not as they once were. Here is what I am talking about:

At one time Christians were seen as good and honest folk who loved the Lord and tried to be the best citizens possible. But it seems it is open season on Christians today. If I profess my faith I am laughed at and mocked. If an athlete says he is a follower of Jesus, he is summarily told to keep it to himself. When did this kind of thinking begin?

At one time it was a joyful cause for celebration when a woman became pregnant. It meant a new life was with us and celebration would soon arrive. It was once shameful to be pregnant out of wedlock. But now it's almost a badge of honor and if the pregnancy is inconvenient it can be dealt with by a loving and devoted doctor who for money will terminate the unborn child. When did this come to my country?

At one time if you engaged in aberrant sexual behavior you tried to keep it in the closet, for you knew it wasn't acceptable or right.

Today we flaunt our sexuality and tell the world we are homosexual and proud of it. If an athlete announces he is "gay," it is cause for celebration and applause by our president. "The man is a hero to admit his sexual 'orientation'." When did my country cease to be?

At one time all of us knew what the definition of marriage was. It was, and had always been, one man and one woman pledged to each other for life. Nobody blurred the definition or tried to redefine it. It was never a matter to be considered by the Supreme Court. We all knew God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Please tell me when we started down this slippery and treacherous dark path?

At one time we had the right to bear arms for our own protection. The largest standing army in the world consisted of the citizenry of the United States of America. Why do bad men make it politically correct for good men to be disarmed? When did it all begin?

I love the citizens of this nation. But I do not approve/applaud the political malfeasance that has slowly brought us to this point in our history as a republic. All we can do to change it is to speak up at every opportunity to do so. Let our voices be heard across the land!

Life isn't fair, but you can be.

- Steven Clark Goad, Blythe

Discussion over, No, Sad in Blythe didn't mention
abortion, only that 30,000 are killed with guns each year, a statistic she picked out of the air, and as though getting rid of guns would solve anything. Aborting babies is a fair comparison because it is murder. A doc was recently convicted of murder 4 killing new born babies by "aborting them." He is accused of aborting hundreds. It is obvious that u are in agreement with such conduct. It is u who named her a unAmerican godless traitor. She is probably a very good person.

@ Discussion over. It ain't over until the Fat Lady Sings. Just read what Sad wrote. That she does not care if Steve marries Steve and so on. But when people that care do speak out, they are criticized as being Far Right and evil, and that they want to put blacks back in chains, oh and keep the little ole ladies bare-footed and pregnant in the kitchen. Oh my God what has America become?

Nothing left to be said after the liberal monster "Sad" has been labeled an unamerican godless traitor and "baby killer" even though nowhere did she or he ever state a position on abortion. God forgive us, help us to forgive one another, and help guide us in the dark times ahead.

I could care less if Steve marries Steve or eve marries eve. It doesn't hurt me or my family. They are gods children also. He made them that way, who am I to question gods design. I will not claim they are unnatural or evil as that would plant the seeds for others to do evil such as brutally attacking or killing these souls because someone in a church somewhere claims these people are aborations against gods laws.
If there is something distasteful going on but not illegal, don't watch it, don't participate, and use it as a moment to teach your kids right and wrong as only a parent should.
There are too many laws and at same time too little enforcement. There are too many distractions from what should be priorities. There are too few consequences allowing greed and corruption to permeate every corner of our country. And there is too much regulation and too much government intrusion in our lives. But to continue to choose to do nothing while 30,000 people a year are killed and countless others injured or forever changed by gun violence, to choose to do nothing year after year is evil when so many things could be done. Things that wouldn't require you to be disarmed.
Beware of left and right extremes as they generally don't care about you, god, or country despite how much the profess to. They usually just care about themselves, their personal wealth, and their personal agenda. They will overly simplify everything and use god, country, and your own emotions to manipulate you to believe in them. I'll admit after the lies that came out about the Iraq war and the collapse of the economy during Bush, I do have a bias against the Right. Can you blame me? They all were supposed to be the best and brightest and the country has had to continue to pay the price. It wasn't all republicans but they were in office for nearly 7 years and left us all in a state of crisis. 2 unfininished wars, one based on lies and bad judgement to say the least, and an economy that was in free fall.

U are such a fraud! "Don't u conservatives ever have a gun, but give us liberal right to lifers an abortion clinic and we will slaughter millions of babies every year with forceps and a scalpel. If they are born alive we will cut the spinal cord or twist off their heads to make sure they don't live. Such hypocrisy! What will you tell God when you face Him?

Romans 7: 14-20 For we know that the Law is Spirtual but I am of the flesh, sold into bondage to sin. For that which I am doing, I do not understand for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but but I am doing the very thing I hate. But if I do the very thing I do not wish to do, I agree with the Law, confessing that it is good. So now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin which indwells me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that that is, in my flesh for the wishing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not. For the good that I wish, I do not do but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. But if I am doing.......

@ SAD. The problem is to many laws and no enforcement here. Drug laws too many. The Left want's to regulate everything. The same go's for Immigration, also too many laws. But they still want more laws. Again the same go's for Gun laws. They want more laws. So why not try what, The Right wants to do. Let's Enforce the Laws that are on the books first. That's the problem with the Left, it's regulate this and regulate that. But it never comes to. Hey lets enforce the laws that we already have. Next the City Fathers here in Blythe will also want to regulate the way you put your toilet paper on in your rest room and how many little squares you can use. But again it will come down to ENFORCEMENT. IN WHICH THE LEFT HAS NO HEART FOR.

Woe is you. Me oh my. You cry more than anyone about those terrible, old-fashioned people of faith. Yes, we believe in rules, starting with the 10 Commandments and in the Constitution of our land. Your whining because rules tend to make you stop and think before you do something. It limits your desire to do ANY thing you desire. And you can't stand that. Whether you are strong enough to believe in God or not, these "limitations" on our lives are what can give us peace, and you have difficulty seeing that, because you want to be "free". LOL. Peace and freedom comes from people following some kind of civilized standards, and, if you really thought about it, you would find that is a "fact". When people are left to do as they damned well please, life becomes centered around "me", and what anybody else thinks is moot. In a world of me and mine, NOBODY wins. FACT. Surely that is obvious to anyone. That is EXACTLY why the geniuses who wrote the Constitution in the way they did. It was to stop the "elitists" from ruling because they "deserved" it. It was their "right". And what about the rest of us? We didn't count. Our dreams, our ambitions didn't mean anything to them. We were slaves. FACT. Do you follow the speed limit? Why or why not? If you are in a line at the store and somebody come up and only has one or two items, and the express is closed, do you invite the person, with a smile, to go ahead of you? Why or why not? The list goes on. I dare say the rightists would tend to do what is "right". They are free to feel good because the know and practice what is right. Yes, I know. There are "false" Christians, but they will find out in due time, they weren't fooling anybody. Come on, liberals, think about somebody else for a change.

Also not included in the constitution is "prayer in schools" or "In God We Trust" or "Christian". So what's your point?

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Apparently some missed the main points of my letter to the editor. I began the piece with "it seems" in the very first sentence. I am not so naive as to think there were not political shenanigans fifty or a hundred years ago. I am aware homosexuality has been with us for eons of time. That, of course, wasn't the point of my little tirade. Also, I am for gun control. Again, not my point. But thanks anyway. What I am most concerned about is that one must post his name on anything published but comments can be made anonymously. That doesn't seem kosher. Carry on.

Sentiments Fred Phelps himself couldn't have better expressed. It's a true shame that the elders of The Church of Christ have maintained this blight in our community for 20 years. So much anger, contempt, and hate for your fellow man can't nourish your soul any more than a song without an instrument. Time to carry another tune, folks.

30,000 gun related deaths a year, tens of thousands more injured and maimed every year. That is the cost of no effective gun control laws. Period. As long as it continues without any effective legislation we are all complicit in those deaths because we value our guns more than those lives. So when your are at the gates of heaven and gods asks you why you chose the gun rights over the thousands of lives that might have been spared, you better have a real good answer.
As for the right wing being being persecuted, give me a break. They the biggest cry babies with the loudest voices this country has ever heard. God help you if you don't fall lock step in line with their thinking of how things should be or else you are confronted with being called everything from a traitor to country or an agent of Satan. in turn destroying any chance for civil discourse or progress for this country.

You are wrong, too. "Separation of church and state" is not found anywhere in the Constitution of the United States of America.

There has never been a time where everyone agreed and there will never be a time! We have separation of Church and State allowing you to support the religion of choice and religion is not to dictate what the State does. That is separation! There are many religions and one Government.

Back in the ole days when people were proud of America and they themselves were proud to be Americans. Now are the days, that if you are a God fearing American. You then labeled a Religious Fanatic. In which you are treated worst the the Muslim Jihadist. America is in this state because of the way, Sad in Blythe, and Way Off, see America. Their Vision has become the new way of life here in America. But still, they get mad at people expressing themselves in their love for this country and their religion. They have now taken over from the Religious Right. So now they are the one's abusing that so call power. By forcing all to conform into their way of life. Just like they accuse the Right of doing. I have no proof of this, but only my observations of the last 40 to 50 years as we slowly go down the drain.
