OBITUARY: Presciliana Garcia

Presciliana Garcia, 81, passed away on March 15, 2013, at the family home in Blythe.

Presciliana Medrano-Rosales was born on Jan. 4, 1932 in San Antonio del Garrote, San Luis Potosi; a small town outside of Matehuala, SLP, to Ricardo and Juana Rosales.

Presciliana and Pedro Garcia-Esqueda were married on March 19, 1950 in Villa Del La Paz, SLP, and they resided in Alamo, Texas, where Pedro worked as a farmhand.

While traveling to Merced, Calif. to seek work, they stopped in Blythe along the way and decided to stay. She remained a homemaker while her husband was employed by US Gypsum and the family lived in Midland until the plant closed. The family moved to Blythe in 1967 where she had resided until her passing.

Presciliana enjoyed cooking, family gatherings and loved to see everyone have a good time. She was a loving and caring wife and mother to 11 children and worked the fields as her children grew older. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and friends.

The family thanks everyone and appreciates all the support and prayers for our mother.

Presciliana is survived by husband Pedro; sons, Ramiro (Sylvia) of Las Cruces, N.M., Pedro "Pete" (Shirley) of Blythe, Andy (Alice) of Porterville, Calif., Jose (Patty) of Peoria, Ariz. and Ricky of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Maria (Sonny) of Blythe, Catalina "Eka" (Pete) of Blythe, Terri Garcia-Green (Scott) of San Antonio, Texas, Angela (Lenny) of Blythe, Juanita (Eric) of Lindsey, Calif., and Renee of Blythe; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her grandsons, Eric and Ricky.

Visitation will be on March 21, 2013 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary of Blythe from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on March 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. with burial following at Palo Verde Cemetery.

A celebration gathering and luncheon will follow afterwards at the American Legion.

To the whole Garcia clan, my condolences to all of you in the loss of your wife/mother. The Garcias were our neighbors in Midland. I was older than the kids but saw all of them being born and raised in Midland. My mom was very good friends with "Chana" and she was always sending over atole to fatten my younger sister. I treasure all the memories I have of knowing this great family. Chana was the first mexican lady I saw make corn tortillas by hand. They were delicious. God's peace and love be with you all.
