TIMES EDITORIAL: Is Ryan Reyes really the hottest guy in Blythe?
Ryan Reyes was crowned the 1st Mr. Blythe at the pageant held Friday night at the Palo Verde College Performing Arts Center.

EDITOR'S NOTE: For the record, some readers have misunderstood our intent in publishing this lampoon concerning Ryan Reyes being crowned Mr. Blythe. The pageant was designed to be a fun poke at the Miss Blythe Pageant, the contestants engaged in self-deprecating humor throughout the show, and the article is an exaggeration of what occurred that night, not a critique. We apologize to Ryan and those who may have been offended by it as it was never our intent to hurt anyone, especially Ryan. We truly appreciate what he has contributed to Blythe and have the utmost respect for Ryan and all the contestants who were able to make fun of themselves in order to raise money for the Miss Blythe program.

Is Ryan Reyes really the hottest man in town?

Despite his big win at the first ever Mr. Blythe pageant held last Friday night at Palo Verde College, a lot of people are saying "no" and questioning the vision of the judges.

"He should have never taken off his shirt," said a fellow competitor who critiqued Reyes fitness performance, noting that he wouldn't be qualifying for the Mr. Olympia contest any time soon.

Many thought Reyes answered the on-stage question wrong and, as musically talented as he is, it was Brendan Carrigan's piano performance of "Mary had a little lamb" that would have stolen the show had it been a Miss Blythe pageant.

Reyes even gave his rose to the wrong Miss Blythe during the formal wear competition, though he did pull off the perfect Fonzarelli-like thumbs-up pose prior to leaving the stage.

The controversy is raging though and a lot of folks are demanding a recount.

It looks like Reyes, or Mr. Blythe as he's demanding we all call him now, will be fighting the valley's many other controversial figures for front page coverage over the course of the next year, having to justify his being crowned the town's first Mr. Blythe.

All kidding aside, the Mr. Blythe pageant was hilarious and arguably one of the best shows ever put on in Blythe.

We congratulate Ryan Reyes for being named Mr. Blythe 2013 and all the contestants who participated to raise money for the Miss Blythe program.

We also congratulate Miss Blythe, Ariel Ramirez, who created and oversaw the fund-raiser along with pageant directors Derek and Mickey Copple.

Anyone who has ever attended a Miss Blythe or Miss Blythe Outstanding Teen pageant knows that these shows provide great entertainment and showcase some of the more talented ladies of our community. The addition of the Mr. Blythe pageant is another notch in the belt of pageant organizers and another night of quality entertainment for locals.

Be sure to go to pvvt.com and check out some of our videos of the event, including Reyes' performance.

And while we're on the subject of great Blythe entertainment, don't anyone forget to head out to the 26th Annual Blythe Bluegrass Festival opening today at the Colorado River Fairgrounds.

The Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event will feature 11 bands of the highest caliber performing on two stages. The music begins each day at 9 a.m. so make it a point to be out there enjoying the great music.

Wow... That's an understatement!! Palo Verde Times has gotten away with way to much in its time... What they have done is PUBLICLY reported information that true or false humiliated an individual. I believe the word is called DEFAMATION! Now whoever it was that wrote the article, the name will eventually get out on the streets, (I mean, really, its Blythe we are talking about) you as well as Palo Verde Times think this was all a complete misunderstanding and I'm "sorry" will be enough to satisfy the public as well as Ryan and his family, well once again you are misunderstood.... We are not an uneducated family, my parents have lived in that town for 37 yrs, my Dad worked very hard as well as my Mom to raise myself as well as my brothers and sisters, and Ryan was and still is a huge fan of his Papa, & my Dad played a very big role in raising my nephew and teaching him morals and standards. You have not only degraded my nephew but now you have also degraded my parents as well as my sister who I'll have you know is a single mom who works and has worked very hard to raise her children to respect people's feelings and never put others down due to jealousy or anger. Something you might need to learn from!... And I'll have you know, this isn't over... And unlike the coward you are, I will gladly sign my name and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this reply. If you are not sure of who I am, ask around, the Wadley's are VERY well known in the little town of Blythe.

Wow and when you think our community couldn't get more of a bad reputation something like this happens. This sickens me that something like this is written. In my opinion Ryan is the best man for the job. He did an outstanding job and deserved to win. He did nothing wrong and does not deserve to be criticized by ignorant people. I'm glad he won

Get over it people, 1st of all its just a joke, the whole pageant was a joke, a fundraiser! Nothing serious. 2nd stop defending ryan, he's a big kid now. He doesn't need a bunch of people to stick up for him. 3rd Im not a fan of this paper or its editor but its just a joke don't get your panties in a ruffle.

Sounds like a bitter parent to me? Ryan has the kindest heart, is a sweet guy and was raised by an amazing woman! I'm quite disgusted that you would even publish this. They all went out to help out the Miss Blythe, It wasn't for bashing. Apparently someone is taking this a tad bit to seriously? Shame shame. Congrats on Mr. Blythe Ryan!!!!!! Good for you!!!!!!!

I'm shocked to even read this article. The PVVT should be ashamed of even submitting this type of degrading article. All the young men in this competition we're doing it to help Miss Blythe. Had no one in this town ever heard the phrase, "Beauty is only skin deep." These kids go through enough bullying and harrassment in this small town at school with their own peers. It really wasn't in the best interest for the local paper to post anything negative. I understand that kids will be kids but for goodness sake the PVVT is run by grown adults, act like one.

Article comment by: Trolling Again

Once again a negative piece of publicity being written to the public. Where is the "Love" and the "Respect" that we should share? PVVT is a "Tool" that only knows how to "Troll"

Keep in spirit Ryan and give them a "Shout Out"!

Trolling:

The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly (deleted) people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue. Trolling does not mean just making rude remarks: Shouting swear words at someone doesn't count as trolling it's just flaming, and isn't funny. Spam isn't trolling either it (deleted) people off, but it's lame.

Wow where is the Name of the person that wrote this artical ?? I know Krista and her Family and they are a very nice friendly and good spirited, for someone to purposly bash someone in the newspaper like this is, you ought to be ashamed of your self maybe that is why you didnt not attach your name to the artical!!! I hope that you would find it in yourself to be a man or a woman and admit who you are by submiiting your Name....Ryan some people are just flat out unhappy and will do and say anything to hurt a person you keep your head with that bright smile of yours ...you and your family are good people dont ever let anyone get you down my friend God Bless you and your Family

Wow! Just when you thought PVVT couldn't outdue themselves. The public's negative opinions should not be remotely part of an article related to an event that was for a good cause. If I were Mr Reyes I would definitely take action and demand PVVT retract this or at least request that PVVT announce who they got their information from. Can you imagine if we were allowed to publish something publically as much as we wanted and use the excuse that "people were saying." I would assume that Ms Blythe would back up Mr Reyes on this and write a letter to the PVVT also since this event was for her benefit.
