COLUMN: Let's get going, Blythe!
Bob Weete

After these many years of charges, counter-charges, lawsuits, threats, insults, harassment, etc., isn't it about time that the community of Blythe finally came out together and actually get some kind of resolution of this hospital mess, and let's do it now, one way or the other.

There has been entirely too much money and energy spent with lawsuits and all kinds of suspected improprieties, secret meetings, under-handed dealings, etc. As would be expected, none of this has had any measurable good effect on the hospital we need so badly here in Blythe.

Many of the comments have been "rumors", many of them true, but still rumored, and many comments have been made on line with undisclosed writers which are given because people are afraid.

They have reason to be afraid. None of us can afford to go through the mess of a lawsuit, and we all know how there are people very willing to use the lawsuit procedure to scare people off. It is a standard technique used by certain kinds of people.

We have businesses that could be threatened, and we have jobs we need to keep, so it is a pretty effective way to silence people.

Boards come and boards go; CEOs come, and CEOs go. And there is one common denominator in all the commotion, and we all know what that is.

We get a board, and the medical staff likes him/her, until they don't follow the dictates of the medical staff, so we are in turmoil, and lawsuits appear, board members disappear.

We get a CEO, and he/she is "acceptable" by the real power that is, and then there is a big blow up, because the CEO does something that displeases the medical staff and, guess what? Another lawsuit and/or vilification..

We have cases, as you've read, of "possible" conflict of interest on the part of board members, and there are a jillion "explanations" to deflect the charges. We have a couple of new board members, and the hospital chief of staff meeting privately with yet another lawyer to "fix" things, and one wonders what the devil is going on there. Why only the two new board members? And, why is the chief of staff in such a meeting? And why the hush-hush?

We all pretty well know by now about the "donation" that was given to the church of one of the board members by the chief of staff. And the fact that it was given "by a third party" is interesting.

Then we have the information that the chief of staff is renting from one of the board members' husband and niece. I am sure there is some kind of "explanation", but personally, I'm not buying it. And there is also the third board member who happens to own an ambulance service that is being promoted by the same doctor.

Now, the medical staff members and their supporters constantly blame the Palo Verde Valley Times for making their business public and they get their cohorts in these activities to support them.

The chief of staff has even gone to the city council with long presentations and diatribes against the paper, trying to get their support. You would think the city council has enough stuff on their own plate, that they don't need to get in the mud here, too.

Elections are fraught with even more of these activities. Now, there are all kinds of explanations that are made to sound magnanimous and caring, but that is cowpie deluxe. Have you noticed that certain candidates have posters that are all alike? Maybe bought and paid for by the same people? And for what responsible reason? Think about it.

Finally, I ask you and all of you who are tired of being afraid to use our hospital facility to put your concerns in writing. You can write to the following attorney with the Fair Political Practice Commission:

Mr. Zackery P. Morazzini, Esq., Fair Political Practice Commission, 428 J. Street, Suite 800, Sacramento, CA 95814. In addition, there is a toll free tip line you may call: 800-561-1861. Hit'em both up.

This is important. Please to not "assume" that your comments will mean nothing. Everybody does count, and we must take this opportunity to do what is right here, for our community.

Don't think you are not a good writer. Do it anyway; it's not spelling and punctuation that counts.

It's what you say that is important here. Yes, you will be sticking your necks out a bit, but it will be difficult for us all to be sued. "We have nothing to fear but fear itself".

We could have a helicopter also! I have not heard but (deleted) That would exclusive agreement could of given Blythe a helicopter like Quartzite!
Wonder why they would stop that and an exclusive surgery contract that would have provided better care.

@Just me. We need something closer. Or out of the Cities limits. Some place where the City or Hospital has no say. Before things get better at the Hospital, things will get much worst. If they see competition moving in maybe, just maybe the people running the Hospital will get their act together. Look I do not like going out of town for medical help or treatment. But we need new doctors here also. Many people and business have gotten used to delivering, and performing poor services. This has to stop, only we the people can do it. They know no matter how bad they are many have no where else to go to. So until the money runs out then they will start to care.

Bob I really would like to know what posters looked just alike? If you are referring to mrs sartin and mrs hudsons yard signs then you must not have looked very well. They were completely different in color and material. I guess you must be repeating some bogus lines you heard down the hall. If you are going to accuse people of wrongdoing then please have some facts to back up your accusations. Without them your columns just seem like a writer spewing outright falsehoods. I have noticed that you have started attending meetings and you know that there is a public comment section where you can freely get up and voice your concerns where those you like to accuse of wrongdoing can publicly address your concerns. SAD bob.

In the end Blythe will lose this hospital. By bankruptcy due to law suites or lack of business from people going out of town. If someone was smart they would open a Medical Emergency Clinic across the river. Because the City Fathers here would never let one open here. It would be just like cutting their own throats. With the Health Care Here? Hehehe.

That says it in a nutshell. One thing you left out. The administration has been change multiple times with MEC approval yet the drama still goes on.
Really who is to blame the Same old Doctors of Palo Verde Hospital!
It is to bad Blythe can not get that through their heads.
Changed Administration multiple times, changed Board multiple times and the common denominator is we still have the same complaining overpaid DOCTORS!!!

Two days ago I received a 16 page booklet (Health Matters) from La Paz Regional Hospital explaining what they can do for us. Today I received a one page notice from Palo Verde Hospital doing nothing but complaining about what the past board members did prior to leaving office. Does it matter what they did, If it was wrong correct it. Stop wasting money that you don't have telling us.
Today I needed medical help so I chose the Hospital that is an actual Hospital, not one that's is playing at it. Its going to take years to straighten Palo Verde out I'd recommend the you give serious thoughts before entering the P. V. ER doors.
One last thing, as you all know were in one of the worst flu season for quite sometime. I walked into the ER of La Paz at 1:45 this afternoon and it was full. I took a seat and within 10 minutes I was called in to the nurses office to explain what was wrong. 30 minutes after that I was called in and was seen by the doctor within 5 minutes or so the whole thing took less then hour and a half that included 2 x rays and blood work. I'm thinking that they have it all together in Parker and as usual Blythe is still Bickering among themselves.

This Hospital has been held hostage by the MEC for far to long. It is time for some law enforcement agency to step in and correct this injustice. There are two current malpractice suits going on for the one of our physicians who appears to be leading the MEC in its endeavors. He is also being sued for Fraud (anti-Kickback). This I would expect to see in a large city where there are 10 times the patients not in a small town. I suspect we are to small of a Hospital and Town for the regulatory agency's to spend the resources needed to do a real investigation, so for now the injustices will continue to plague us?

Thanks Mr. Weete! I agree with everything you said.

Before I wrote this, I looked out the window to make sure no pigs were flying around. I didn't see any but it doesn't mean they weren't there. *wink*
