HEALTHCARE DISTRICT ELECTION: Sartin driven by patient care

Marty Bachman

BLYTHE - Trina Sartin, a registered nurse who is the owner of Desert Air Ambulance in Blythe, is running for the Palo Verde Healthcare District Board on the platform that patient care comes first and that a well-stocked and supplied hospital should be the number one priority of spending before management salaries and benefits.

"I care about our community having a hospital which provides quality patient care," she said. "I want to restore the reputation of Palo Verde Hospital with the entire community, with the ultimate long-term goal of building a new hospital and providing more diverse services."

Sartin, with 26 years of experience providing care for sick people, cited that time on the job as an asset that will serve the community well should she be elected. She said the challenges facing Palo Verde Hospital are many, beginning with administrative salaries and bonuses that she said are overly inflated, contributing to both staff wage and departmental cuts.

"Many of my fellow citizens that I have spoken to have chosen to take their health care needs out of town, in large part due to excessive waiting time in the Emergency Room," she said. "Several department managers have resigned recently due to stress-related issues brought about by intimidation from the administration. The pharmacy has been mandated to reduce the hours in which it stays open. Our local nurses are commonly being sent home with fewer hours on their paychecks and out-of-town nurse travelers continue to dominate our ER nursing staff with no resolution in sight."

Sartin also cited her experience a business owner as another contribution she would bring to the board. She was critical of departments that have been out-sourced and claimed that at a recent Board meeting it was pointed out by the chief financial officer that the hospital was losing thousands of dollars every month, and at the current rate of loss, that closure was possible within a few short years.

"The current hospital board, despite losing money and cutting departments, has continued to hand out enormous salaries," she said. "This is unacceptable to me as a citizen and we need to get this back on track before it's too late."

Sartin said the hospital needs to operate within a budget that will stop the negative losses and promote growth. She said the hospital needs to also implement a system that allows local nurses to be cross-trained in other departments, reducing the need for hourly cuts and/or layoffs, recruit more specialized doctors and acquire more up-to-date equipment to improve diagnoses.

"We need to contract with other hospitals for the purpose of having telemedicine, which is now widely being used in many rural hospitals such as ours," she said.

Sartin said she has always placed a premium on providing excellent patient care and that her passion for taking care of patients has never been stronger.

"Along with that goes treating patients with kindness and respect, no matter who they are or where they came from," she said. "Patients in a hospital are the customer and should be treated as such. I truly care about the people of this community. I am not running for myself - I am running for all of us."

And...they won with over 70% of this town's vote. And that, folks, is what is called a "mandate". Ha ha ha ha. Unfortunately for the entrenched supporters of Jim Carne, Quitty and the side-kick, the clique was smashed and they've struck out. No matter how many neg articles this 'editor' will print - shamelessly - this community fully supports this new board. All you do with this trash is damage this community. Please take your garbage and peddle it elsewhere. Soooo many will be appreciative.

I get confused. Can you ask the readers writing into the Pvvt blogs to clarify when they use the term "the twins". Do they mean Trina Sartin & Sandy Hudson or Mike Evans & Marty Bachman?

Do not tell me you do not understand the difference between an employee (Pinion) and an OWNER (Trina Sartin of Desert transport & Desert Air)?

Brave soul. Bless you. Where you put your first name, make up a name in the space for last name, pur "Foghorn" or something else just as cute. The rest has to be your real phone and e-mail address. Prayers for you and finding an honest lawyer who will challenge the board's so-called lawyer.

I am surprised at u, enquiring minds. Don't u know that it is perfectly o k for Ms. Pinon of Blythe Ambulance to be on the PVHDB but not Trina for Desert Ambulance? Pinon is the right kind of conflict of interest promoted by the PVVT. This is no double standard because Blythe Ambulance also has the helicopters, and the PVVT approves of Pinon. Surely u have noticed that the PVHDB is always split 3 to 2 with the two incumbants causing all the trouble they can. Why not recall them?

"handles"? Recently I was taken to the PV Hosp in an Ambulance-that was the only part of my adventure that was compasionate, kind and without "FEAR". let me tell you the person that did my ultrisound flat scared me-like to mention that the Dr. and case worker also tried to set me up for a trip to a place where there is no reqard for your life-you are a research Monkey or the Final exam for some student-I still wonder which relitive was getting me, so they could play Doctor-Bottom line, still can't find an attorney to address the good ol-boys at this hosp and my results. Out of FEAR maybe-can't blame'em.

Does anyone believe Trina was driven by patient care now? Greed, greed, and more greed. Lets send the Dr. puppets down the road before their greed kills someone. We can't have this happening for 4 more years.

Well people would love to talk about the issues with provable facts. I read your past posts again and have failed to find anything in there that is factually based. All your posts are based on opinion. If you want to be more credible try posting with facts for once instead of your beliefs. Everything you have written has just been nasty personal attacks with nothing tangible to back it up. I know it is tough when the facts are not on your side or when your candidate gives u none to work with. I guess you could try to run with the whole " big truck vs. Little truck" of jims or rosalies " it takes so much out of him" argument when talking about our overpaid CEO

I took a friend to the E.R. earlier this year. For 10 hours she laid there in a tiny space being treated as though she was at a get a number and get in line establishment. The Dr. on duty never gave his name and was very rude.My friend had less then 2 hours of life left before a different Dr. took over.He was direct,to the point and his name Dr.Saholobei.He saved her life. This hospital board should ask the patients about the care and changes that need to be made. Quality over quanity. This town need's fresh ,young ideas all the really old geezers won't live forever

Very nice write up but you have to remember .Crap at the hospital was going on when her running mate was on the board and most of it was caused by her and (deleted) perhaps she has talked to employees and doctors that are her friends.I have also talked employees and my primary doctor. That tell a different story. So before we go on with this there is nothing you can say that will ever convince me that she only wants on for her business. And all of her donations might have her a ticket to heaven

I know she donates time to the fair, certain events, Those donations are tax right offs for promoting her business. I know she does it to hang her banners to promote her business. That type of donations are not from the heart, it's from the pocket book, for the pocket book.
I donate without all the fan fare, from the heart.
2011 was $36,550.00
2012 is already over $40,000.00 with two months left in the year. I don't only donate money, I give time as well. And still don't promote my business with banners, or anything else. You must not really know Trina that well, or she introduced you to the her she wanted you to think she was. Catch her when she isn't pandering votes, and listen to what she really says , and does you would see her hit every branch falling out of the saint tree.
If anything you have, or could benefit her, she'll be your best friend. (deleted) I just trying to stick to the hospital issues, because on those alone she will not win the seat. Let me tell you she has skeletons in her closet

You want to play the answer the question game then let's do say. Why does trina want to run now when she did not want to before? Maybe because before the board did not lock the hospital into a CEO with a contract it could not afford or had no real way to get out of. Maybe because when she was around there on a daily basis she saw how all the progress that had been made around the hospital was starting to unravel. Maybe because she talked to doctors and nurses who said they did not have the tools they needed to perform their job at their best but management just kept getting more and more. Maybe she talked to the people that were resigning from their positions due to serious conflicts with management. Maybe because she saw that there was a need for a voice from someone that understands healthcare to help turn that hospital around and she saw that at the current rate there would be no hospital in a couple of years due to bankruptcy. So yeah I guess she may be worrying about her business and every other employees job at that hospital. In regards to the doc she said at the forum that if he is found guilty she expects full retribution to the hospital. Obviously you did not attend it. By the way a forum is where you get to ask candidates questions and get answers. I know you Jim and rosalie supporters do not know what those are since they will not do one by themselves or with the other candidates. Time for my question When was the last month that the hospital actually showed a profit?
