Tornado hits just west of Blythe

At approximately 3 p.m. on Jan. 21, winds picked up to in excess of 70 mph. The National Weather Center issued a tornado watch at roughly 3:17 p.m. after what a representative in Phoenix referred to as "a mass of clouds and straight-line winds moving on the radar as to indicate a tornado in the area" just five miles west of Blythe.
