Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Riverside County Department of Animal Services Blythe Shelter has one cat and two dogs available this week for adoption.

The Blythe Animal Shelter is at 245 S. Carlton (behind ACE Hardware) from Monday-Friday, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Five-month-old "Hippo" is male shorthair kitten eager to be a part of your family.

"Dottie", the female Doxie-Chi mix, is 3 years old and wants to come home to a loving home.

"Ellie" is a female Chihuahua approximately 3 years old. She is a sweet dog.

For both cats and dogs the license fee is not part of the adoption price. Many dogs need homes. Some are possibly people's pets, so anyone missing a pet needs to stop in at the shelter to check the animals.

Current pet owners should fit their pets with a microchip. Riverside County Animal Shelter offers micro-chipping for $20.

The procedure will help prevent pets getting separated from owners for an extended period.

Blythe Animal Control can scan pets it finds and reunite them with owners before taking them to the shelter and incurring fees.

Cat vaccinations and other vaccinations are also available.

Now the shelter offers dog toys for a donation that goes toward the enrichment of the animals at the local shelter.

Also, the shelter is seeking volunteers to help out at the new building.

Volunteers can help with the animals by walking the dogs, brushing and petting the cats, grooming the dogs, greeting customers, cleaning kennels and more. Volunteer applications are available online at www.rcdas.org or in person at the Blythe Animal Shelter.

More information on fees, featured animals, other animals that are available, or rabies clinic is available by calling (760) 921-7857 or 760-922-6111.
