Paul Evans' 5th volume in The Walk series, expected out next May
Rosita Smith

BLYTHE - The fourth book in Richard Paul Evans' The Walk series, A Step of Faith, is now available for check-out at the Palo Verde Valley Library. Evans' fans are anxious to find out what happens in the ongoing walk of Alan Christoffersen, who is walking from Seattle to Key West, Fla.

The book will be in high demand. You can put a reserve on it at the circulation desk - that way you can get the book in the order in which you requested it.

If you are not familiar with the series, in volume one, Christoffersen's business partner stole his business away from him as he tended his wife in her final days. Alan made a decision to get out of town - Seattle - and walk to the farthest point of land in the USA - Key West Fla. In volume one, The Walk, Christoffersen made it to Spokane where he was mugged and robbed.

In volume two, Miles to Go, a mysterious woman nurses Alan back to health. He leaves Spokane, crosses Montana and Wyoming and ends up in Rapid City.

In volume three, Road to Grace, Christoffersen becomes a typical tourist, visiting small towns and notable landmarks along the way.

Volume four, A Step of Faith, opens with Alan in a St. Louis hospital after a bad vertigo attack. He flies across country to UCLA for brain surgery then insists on returning to St. Louis to finish his walk.

He tangles with a cult outfit, visits Elvis Presley's Graceland, and tours several plantation homes that date back to Civil War times. He was in Folkson, just across the Florida state line, when a call came from California: his father had suffered a heart attack, and they wanted him home, delaying his walk for the third time.

Volume five will be the final book in Evans' The Walk series, which is scheduled for publication next May, 2014. Will Alan's father recover? Will Alan return to Florida and finish his walk? Will Alan come to terms with his own personal demons? And does Alan come to realize that life is not a sprint, but a step of faith, one step after another? You'll have to wait a year to find out.

Richard Paul Evans' first book, the best selling The Christmas Box, premiered some 20 years ago. Since then Evans has written more than 20 novels, all of them instantly appearing on the best-seller list. He also writes for children. His books have been translated into more than 24 languages and he has gathered numerous awards long the way.

A Step of Faith is now at the Palo Verde Valley Library. It is shelved on the new fiction shelves under EVANS. His older books can be found on the regular fiction shelves section that runs along the western back wall.

The Palo Verde Valley Library is across from the northern edge of Todd Park and the Senior Center at 125 W. Chanslorway. There is parking at the rear of the library for the safety of our patrons.
