TIMES EDITORIAL: We're not fooled; don't you be
Hossain Sahlolbei
Hossain Sahlolbei

The recent Times story on the dismissal of the Palo Verde Healthcare District's lawsuit against Palo Verde Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. Hossain Sahlolbei is just another nauseating chapter in the annals of the hospital since Sahlolbei's arrival.

Sahlolbei can claim victory in that dismissal, but the fact of the matter is that board members Sahlolbei helped elect who were beholden to him refused to vote to pay the attorneys that were fighting the case for the district. As a result, the attorneys withdrew from the case and the board's new/old attorney, Jeff Scott, will do as the board instructs him if he wishes to continue drawing fees from the hospital. With three votes in his pocket, - Trina Sartin, Sam Burton, and former landlady Sandy Hudson, Sahlolbei can pretty much write his own ticket, and if that means putting an end to a lawsuit against him, then that's what will happen.

It's the American way; you put in power the government that serves you best, not one that's going to be fair to all.

Anyone who thinks Sahlolbei is just an innocent victim of past boards or the newspaper needs to remember that the one constant in most all of the infamous travails of Palo Verde Hospital is Sahlolbei.

His hot temper and tantrums have been the source of many of the hospital's problems, including its high employee and management turnover rate, and the reason why Palo Verde College doesn't allow its nursing students to practice at the hospital, instead sending them to institutions as far as Parker, Ariz. and Indio, Calif.

For more than a decade now the hospital, staff members, board members and people in the community have been embroiled in lawsuits with Sahlolbei. Numerous times boards have been on the verge of ridding the community of his presence only to have a new board elected that was favorable to him.

This happened when the management firm Brim, which reportedly settled its suit with Sahlolbei on the condition that he leave, was taken over by AHM, which allowed Sahlolbei to stay.

When Sahlolbei fell out with AHM and the board at that time, again the lawsuits were flying. Sahlolbei got a board, which included Sandy Hudson, that was favorable to him and the lawsuits went away and Sahlolbei once again remained on staff.

Then, when Sahlolbei fell out of favor with the board and hospital management this time, Sartin and Hudson won board seats, and the suit was dismissed.

While Sahlolbei and his attorney can claim these as victories, it doesn't fool us and shouldn't fool the thinking public.

While Sahlolbei invokes his concern for patient care every time he doesn't get his way, when he does get his way, he ends up with more money and more power.

If patient care is his primary concern, then he needs to focus on performing surgeries and quit with the politics.

Before the hospital closes he will try to buy it as no other hospital will have him...Then the hospitals name would change to (deleted)

I remember well every lawsuit Dr S has initiated. Don't forget he is the one who sued Dr Montgomery and LOST Montgomery was not taking his freedom of speech away, the court sided w/Montgomery, Dr S was proven WRONG. The previous board DID bring THE LATEST lawsuit against Dr for FRAUDULENT BEHAVIOR – PARS/anesthesiologist. The new board let it "run it's course" and didn't follow up on behalf of the community to continue to prosecute him, that's a favor this board gave to this doc - thanx for letting the behavior continue, THAT IS TECHNICALLY "KILLING THE SUIT" - THIS IS NOT A WIN FOR BLYTHE. Thanx to the new board Dr got away again with unethical behavior, that's what he won due to the twins and gopher. What does Blythe get? An unethical bunch of people looking out for each others backs - one board member has exclusive transport priveleges @PVH one board member receives rent from Dr S to pay off her mortgage, one board member gets large donations to his church from the Dr, sounds like hush pay huh? The anesthesiologist blew the whistle when the contract ended. Dr S had his hands all over the negotiations for the contract, where they never should have been and still are thanx to new members of the current board. All the fans of Dr & sheep board members need to remember this Doc has more freedom of speech than anybody - he complains & rambles on and on to the point PVH business cannot be completed because he never gets done TALKING - that is a freedom of speech that you will not see in most countries, like Syria, Iran, etc. This man has taken the constitution and its freedoms and enjoyed it thoroughly. He is NOT a victim but the instigator - take off your blinders, quit being sheep.

to@@Ron Dean, just a hand full of malcontents who speak nothing but hate and jealousy. They lost the election, the hospital is still going, the lawsuit was lost, they can't say "I told you so" which is there entire ambition. Klune's lawsuit will b lost or tossed out and the hospital will win. The Doc is on the right side, else the courts would not b deciding in his favor. If it was not for the pvvt keeping it alive, the malcontents would have
shut up long ago, but it gives them something 2 do.

"The doctor did not start the recent lawsuits and the board did not kill the lawsuit."

Where have you been? Who is suing the District and three former board members. Who stopped paying for the Fraud lawsuit against Sahlolbei (the three amigos Burton, Sartin and Hudson)!
I suppose you do not care if there was really FRAUD committed just as long as your friend can continue to do as he pleases and run the hospital!

You sound like you are in the good old boy group. How do you know what the Dr. told the board? There is more than one law suit going on. Who told them to fire the last administration? I agree that the public should be made aware of what is going on with our hospital. Why do you not hold the present trio in charge to this statement? They will tell you what they and the Dr. want you to know!

Just remember who started the lawsuits here. The doctor did not start the recent lawsuits and the board did not kill the lawsuit. Doc asked them to not just drop it and let it run its course. What people forget is that the doctor is entitled to freedom of speech and due process just like everyone else is. I may not always agree with how he says things but I do agree that if things are not being handled properly by people at the hospital then we as the public have a right to know.

Article comment by: @ @ron dean..very well said...

Those people u refer to are the community who have been ravished by the doc and the arrogant tactics he has used and always will use. U may have to learn the TRUTH the hard way like the rest of us that he is not good for patients nor this community. IT IS TRUE that he brought the gun to the meeting way back when - HE ADMITTED it - remember all the excuses he and Dr Lucero came up with for having it there??? No don't remember?? This writer does and remembers our local board member Dr Montgomery TRYING VERY HARD to get along with Dr S and help our community ONLY TO BE SUED - REMEMBER THIS - DR S LOST THAT SUIT!!! @ Entertainer - look it up DR S LOST. He is not the innocent fellow u seem to portray. He only won other suits BY DEFAULT!!! Don't be ignorant and act like Dr S was in the right for doing the things he did. Just because u can sue somebody doesn't mean u SHOULD - wake up. Dr is an (deleted) who is in charge of PVH - that is a JOKE - his parents (twins, gopher) are more foolish than he is by letting him get away from consequences. He would have lost IF HIS FAN CLUB HADN'T LET THE SUIT DIE. That is NOT A WIN.

In court all will come out. Important message for the puppets. Remember he who makes a deal first with the DA will get off easily. But wait did someone not write here that the DA was in bed with these people? Wait is not the Chief also very close to these people too?

So what's wrong here? It's not a pretty picture is it? Funny how a group of people can manipulate a small City. Just play connect the dots with the other Boards.

Boy, have you been blind! The Doc has, as it has been said, "won" cases only by (deleted) and/or some other form of skullduggery, and everybody in town knows that. (Except you and the twins and gopher, of course.) In addition, you actually BELIEVE that he is only focused on patient care??? I would say something, but it would be bleeped out, so you can guess what I would have said. That "doctor" is so absolutely all about himself, that nobody else is worth anything to him. Oh, he "cares" about "important" people that can help in his agenda, but, even there he would drop them like a hot potato if they dared to hint that he "might" be wrong. He is, sadly, the most (deleted) I have ever seen, period.

PVVT what is your obsession with this Doctor?!?!? You talk about him 24/7. There's real issues happening in this town beside your love/hate obsession for this guy. Newspaper sounds more like a (deleted) gossip mill then a newspaper.

The whole thing is old and moldy. Both sides deal in half truths and omissions. I'm not sure who could be called the winner, but the community is the loser. It makes me so sick I want to puke. Hope I don't need a doctor.
