LETTER: Council needs to first fix the streets

I was not surprised by the article on the front page stating that our elected leaders have decided to continue to waste our limited tax dollars on a new exit ramp at Rivera Dr.

I did not vote for any of the incumbents for fear this waste of money was still on the agenda.  Your article says that the present exit has had many accidents.  How does the number of accidents compare to the other exits for Blythe on a car usage average? Who owns the land and who will make a handsome profit when the state buys it?

Several I-10 exits in the Coachella Valley have been redone or are presently under construction.  Do any of the cities they serve help pay for the construction?   I thought the interstate system was federal and state funded; why is the city of Blythe spending its limited money?

As I drive around Blythe I note that ourstreets are in the worst condition I have seen them in the 18 years I have lived here!  I think our streets need the repair and our cars need the relief more than we need a new exit at Riviera Dr.

Do not get me wrong I have wondered for years why there was not a Visitor Center right here where visitors enter the state.  I think that it should be built at US 95 or 7th Street Exits.  There is plenty of empty land there and this way the visitors would be closer to the city attractions and really be off the interstate.  As my wife and I have traveled this country I remember the most the visitor centers that caused me to get fully off of the interstate highway and be at the edge of the nearest town.

Thinking of road usages; what are those 2 or 3 large trucks doing heading south on Lovekin several afternoon a week about 2:30 PM?  The bottoms of the trucks have shoots on them and a white powder is blowing off of them.  Has the mine up Lovekin between the mountains been reopened?  Those trucks cause extra wear and tear on Lovekin and they drive past 3 of our schools.  Why are they not directed to use the county roads and enter the interstate at Neighbors Blvd.?

Finally, if we want to attract visitors to our city then old empty buildings in the downtown area need to be condemned and removed.  City leaders what is being done about these eyesores?

I pray for more sensible use of our limited taxes since the State of CA seems to want to keep more and more of it as if they have more wisdom on how to spend it wisely.

@....I'm Back aka I'm just saying. Just to do 300 yards of road work you will need a driver, a person to set the cones, then you need the man to do the real work, plus you will need to hire 5 more people just to look at him working. That will be a total of 8 people working. At the end of those 300 yards you will have to start over again at the beginning.

@....I'm just Saying. So the potholes will be repaired soon? With what men or money? You must still be on a Turkey High.

Look just because the Walmart deal went South that is no excuse to stop maintaining the streets of Blythe. The parks, Getting the owners of those empty building to do something with them.

Yet these people pass laws for the people around town. No parking here or there. No Drinking here or there. No medical dispensary.

It's not rocket science. Give a graffiti culprit a can of glow in the dark paint and have them mark all of the potholes around town so when we're driving at night we can avoid them!!!

@Just me. I never said that he was uneducated. I said " they are not competent enough to represent Blythe in court" I can prove this statement to you, Just look at your President. Obama, He's a constitutional Lawyer. Just look at him, You call him competent?

Look this Mayor, and Council were not even there, when Walmart wanted to come here. What I meant was, why have a Mayor or Council if in the end, they have no power to represent Blythe. When others are running Blythe in the background. So why not just let the GOBC run Blythe. They have been doing this for years.

You know common sense, and education are not the same, right? But, why am I asking you this? Since you seam to lack both. So what is this? " I don't eat, drink, or sleep with him " Is this your subconscious taking? Are you also thinking about his $$$? You my lady are dirty minded.

@.... Must of forgotten! Yes you are a 100% right. It's the local businessmen, and some people, that kept Wal-mart away.

Then why did we elect these people to represent the people and run Blythe? It appears that they are not competent enough to represent Blythe in court, as to what is best for the whole community.

So lets cut the middleman and lets let these businessmen run the city. It comes down to the Mayor and Council are just figure heads with no say or power.

Here a good point! You failed to say when Walmart was coming to town. It was shut down by local businesses and there complaints to the right people. You can't blame the council. You can blame
Standage Tires, I forgot the other business, and the girl who was paid to say it would not be a good idea for Walmart to be in Blythe because it would hurt local businesses. How can we grow if certain businesses in this community are greedy. Let's give these other big companies a chance to come in a make Blythe a better place to live and shop! Why do you think the Imperial Valley continues to grow! Don't blame the council. Blame certain business men in our community!

You guys ever wonder how much money the City Council has spent paying professionals on how to help Blythe grow in the past. So what will this new council do? Will they hire another company, and waste more money again?

Blythe is like trying to sell a dilapidated house. But who would want to buy a dilapidated house? No one unless they have a lot money to spare. So the only way to sell that house is to fix it up, and then it could be place on the market.

So to be able to put Blythe out into the market to get people or businesses to invest in Blythe, you first will have fix Blythe up.

So Mr. Mayor, and Council before you spend 10's of thousands of dollars for useless advice, that you will never be able to use do to the lack of funds.

That is unless you guys want to give Blythe away for free, like in tax free to businesses to get them to come here at the cost to the people of Blythe. Maybe hear what the community is saying to you guys.

Good job! Thank you, but you could go North several blocks, too. There are many other terrible places in town, too. Just send a crew following the grid streets of town town, north to south and east to west, and have them patch those tire-wreckers, too. Hobsonway East and West are also threats to alignment.
