COLUMN: Women's rights activists plan protest at Quechan Park
Jan B. Tucker
http://www.janbtucker.com

On Oct. 6, people from California and Arizona will gather at Quechan Park in Blythe, to stand together to protest Governor Jan Brewer and her extreme, right-wing legislators who have stripped Arizona women's rights to fair health care and reproductive services, and Sheriff Joe Arpaio for his neglect in failing to investigate over 400 sexual abuse cases against women and girls, and the recent implementation of the controversial anti-immigrant "show your papers" law, SB1070, requiring police to check the immigration status of people detained even for routine traffic stops.

Starting at 12 p.m., California women and men will descend upon the California-Arizona border town to offer their solidarity with their Arizona brothers and sisters who are suffering abuses at the hands of these extremists.

The California delegation will build a cardboard wall representing their aversion to Arizona's non-progressive policies. In a metaphorical "saving of our sisters," the California delegation will then bring the Arizona participants "over" to the safer, progressive side of the wall.

Together, Arizona and California participants will then tear down the wall in a symbol of their commitment to work together to stop human rights abuses in Arizona. The event will include a series of speakers from both states and will be filmed and made into a short documentary for Internet distribution before the upcoming November elections.

This event is being co-organized and co-hosted by Miss R*EVOLutionaries, a California based grassroots women's political awareness and direct action group, and Independent Voices, an Arizona based grassroots group working to bring common sense and reasonable leadership back to our communities.

The public, including children, are welcome. Participants are advised to bring water, a source of shade and extra food in case of extreme heat.

For Arizona, it is https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/370924506317994/ .

Very disappointed in this article. You're supposed to report news neutrally. Leave the bashing and determinations of what is extreme to the readers. This country already has enough individuals who just read news or are brainwashed by the things they read instead of doing the research. Please don't contribute to the stupidity.

So you people have to postpone your illegal rally, to protest. Ha that's funny maybe you people should have looked up the Laws about public gathering or protesting. You need a permit to protest. Why did you think that you had that magic of the crazy overtake the wall street people? Just go to the Arizona side and be with those other crazy people. (Please just stay there.) That want to use tax money to kill unborn babies.

Why not try fixing Blythe first and then vote moon beam out office. If you really want to help the world join the peace crops. Maybe join the Military. Try what you are planning on doing. In Mexico. Then maybe if they ever let you all out of jail. You can tell me all the changes, you all did in Mexico.

I agree with all the postings. AZ doesn't need to compare notes with CA...That don't even begin to have the problems that CA has and no one deserves the California Crap-o-la. I love Sheriff Joe and I also wish he could run for president. Only thing I feel sorry for AZ is that Obama had to sue AZ for something they were doing correctly. And now he's wrong again about the border being safe. RIP Agent Ivie.

I love Jan Brewer and Sherrif Joe - wish they were in CA instead of AZ! Tired of all the inmates getting free education, dental care and everything else - Joe would be putting a stop to that!!! CA spends more money on inmates than teachers, lol. Also sick & tired of paying for free birth control and abortions - WOMEN NEED TO START TAKING CARE OF THEMSELVES - & thank the nat'l org for women for all your rights to be treated equally. Now u r equal - go get a job and buy birth control - ckinics charge $5 or less for a month - give us all a break and take care of your own needs. Tell the liberals to butt out!!!

"Reproductive Services" is the new term for "Abortion Clinic".

Ms. Tucker, first of all what do you mean exactly by reproductive services? And why is CA getting involved in AZ politics I think you guys have plenty of problems to be worrying AZ issues. Just like you CA liberals, always trying to push your views on other people. Tell me, how many sex abuse cases has LACSO failed to ivestigate. As far as the immigration issue goes I think its a good thing. Its because of leberal views like these that CA will soon be bankrupt. And if AZ is so bad then why do so many Californians choose to leave for AZ. You CA liberal nutjobs need to stay out of AZ we will never let Az become what CA has become.
