COLUMN: A job to do

Bob Weete

It is time. Yes, it is time, people of Blythe. It is time that we cut the hate that has developed within our community and use our time for more Godly things.

"In case you haven't noticed" the problems involving the hospital, the city council, the city manager, the police chief, and the Times is dangerously close to killing Blythe.

I can hear you now, "Well, if only the hospital board wouldn't...", or "If the City Council didn't...", or "But the city manager won't...", or "If the chief of police would just...", or, finally, "if the Times would quit..."

Stop it. If we are all as dedicated to the care of the town of Blythe, California, as we say we are, there would not be any of the destructive "wheeling and dealing", "back-biting" and general Satan-pleasing childish behavior going on. It has been going on for far too long, folks.

There is a lot of concern these days about "bullying" in the schools. I just wonder where in the world these kids learn that. Hmmm?

The hospital leadership has a job to do. The City Council has its job to do, and it's not quite the same job as the hospital's. Within the City Council, a person is hired as manager to do a particular job. The City Council also hires a police chief who has a specific job description. Finally, the staff of the Palo Verde Valley Times has a specific job to do, separate from all the others.

All of these entities are essential to the promotion and very life of a city. It's like a human being; if we lose the function of our hands, the full potential cannot be achieved; if the legs are missing, that, too, is a limiting thing for the person; if eyes or ears, or other parts of that body are not functioning properly, the very heart of the being is not realized. And yet, we all know of people who have over-come those "imperfections" to lead successful, productive lives.

Unfortunately, even if the human has all the regular "parts", if any of them are diseased, the entire body is affected. And therein lies the problem. Various parts of this city are, indeed, diseased. Various individuals in charge of the city's functions clearly are not acting in such a way as to promote life in Blythe. They are diseased by their love of power - and money.

A crippling combination; actually, a deadly combination. The city of Blythe has shown, time and again, it is a caring town. Yet, we somehow have been possessed and misguided from the very core of our being. If each entity would simply be the best they can be at the various tasks assigned them, we would have no problem. However, we have been besieged by a number of very greedy people whose interest is not for the betterment of the entire community. They covet power, and the money it can bring them, personally.

We have seen the "bully" attitude in their style of leadership. We are learning of a multitude of "under-the-table" actions that indicate the kind of people they really are. Intimidation is rampant; true examples of integrity and honesty are woefully absent.

Strange thing about humans; we can ignore our real responsibilities, and spend our time doing things that are not exactly honorable, and we are fine - until we get caught.

Then all hell breaks out. And we glibly spew out propaganda about the fine job we are doing, and how saintly we are. And we start pointing fingers - always at someone else.

We start campaigns to malign the ones who are actually doing the job they are designed to do. I hear about petitions going around, there are people organizing to boycott people and businesses who don't share their ideas, law suits are threatened or brought to quiet the "enemy". Property is destroyed - Chicago-type dealings rampant.

"If a man is called to be a street-sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, 'Here lived a great street-sweeper who did his job well."

Martin Luther King, Jr. was absolutely right. In the long run, we don't have to worry about what "they" say about us if we are tending to our job - whatever it is - with honor, dignity, and good sense. Greed simply detracts from anything we might do, because we are then doing things for the wrong reason.

Fortunately, we here in Blythe have a newspaper that is doing exactly what is intended to do. How else are we, the citizen of Blythe, going to cut through the smoke screen of exaggeration, lies, fiction that is the specialty of all those whose greed drives them.

MLK, Jr. also said, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

Article comment by: Question for Government Blythe

I have heard that when merchants call the Pd to make arrest for shop lifting, P d charges for the call. Someone I know got dui 21 months ago who thought he paid all his penalties recently received a bill from Sheriff for approximate $500.00 for hours of service. The dui arrest was done in the city limits. Why do these agencies charge for service when we taxpayers already pay for this don't we?

Hospital had a special meeting last Thursday 9/19/013?
Agenda was for a Closed Session only. Item said "Conference with Legal Counsel Concerning Potential Litigation Per Gov't Code Section 54956.9(b)(1) (One Case)"

According to the minutes to be approved at Wednesday's 9/25/2013 meeting it said that Pinon and Hudson did not attend.
Have you ever heard of the three amigos having a meeting with out Burton, Hudson and Sartin attending?
Pinion and Hudson did not attend!

Minutes from 9/19/2013 meeting:
"President Sartin reports that
the Board in Closed Session
voted (2-1) with Director
McClain abstaining to authorize
Mr. Scott to take appropriate
action to retain special counsel
to assist in the potential
litigation matter."

They authorized Hospital Attorney Jeff Scott to hire another attorney for this legal matter!

@ Just me. You are right on, about some of the people working at the hospital. You know that old wives tale about one bad apple? I guess this is about as good of a case we have here.

I have writen about this before. What good is it if you can have the best people working there, when the public face of the hospital is the good Doctor, and the 3 board members.

All of the good, these people do for the community. It is trashed by by the Dr, and his group of people. So until the people of Blythe clean the hospital of the bad influences, that come with the likes of this group, nothing good will come.

Setting all jokes aside don't get me wrong there are good honest people at the hospital that will and do tell the truth, but have to stay in the dark otherwise they will lose their jobs...Can you imagine having to be a fake and pretending to be happy when you are not.. any way back to the doctor and his members I think every thing out of their mouths is lies....

@ Just me. Fear not I hear that the Good doctor has plenty of experience in the un-bunching department. Since he has 3 board members as his steady customers, after every board meeting.

I heard that the 3 members had a close meeting to discuss the subject of going commando. Code name (Sticky Fingers).

HAHA El Pica....I never allow my panties to get into a bunch, that would be painful and I would be forced to go to the ER ..Wait for hours on end then finally get a bed with no pillow to lay my head on and the doctor wouldn't have the equipment to un bunch them....So I stay panty bunch free...Your right it is better to work together but if it is not their way it's the highway lost cause....But I do like the way you are thinking

@ Just me. Why are getting your panties in a bunch? I agree with you on them not telling the truth. So if they say nothing, then nothing can be held against them. In the court of public opinion.

This is what I meant about them pleading the 5th. I was just being sarcastic about the people " Board ", that's all.

This is why many people can not communicate, and work together too much anger in this small town. we tend to lash out to one another in turn it keeps the people from working as a whole to save the hospital. The people of Blythe must come together, if they want to help Blythe.

As an individual can do almost nothing. a group can accomplish some things. But the whole town can get it all done.

El pica no offense intended here...Do you go to the meetings....You can hear them being told right then....Do you communicate with people outside the blog...If not you should they can give you info that would stand hair up....They@ the hospital are not honest people...It is good to hear the positive but they should also let the negative be known as well, that would be fair and square they keep that part hid.. Like right now they claim the hospital is progressing when it is honestly falling apart...I pray you don't have to go to the ER but if you do you will know what I am talking....

@ Just me. If they do not say anything, or speak at all about the hospital. It can not be called a lie, or to call them liars is wrong.

I believe that in, legal jargon that is called Pleading The 5th.

Re read but proves nothing as they still have not posted the recording. They tried to make us think that they would be more open then the last Board. But ever since Hudson, Sartin, Burtin and Dr. S took control of the Hospital there has not been a financial posted with the agenda packet and portions of recordings have been accidentally erased and now not posted at all. TRANSPARENCY hogwash!

Please re read what was written in the readers comments and you will find nowhere where it says the doctor got his way. Instead it says what his recommendation was and that the situation got resolved following the discussion with the attorney. Yes you are correct in that it ended up in the closed session portion of the agenda. To say though that anybody tried to keep it off the agenda in order to try and control the meeting is false and that is what was being discussed. If anything you should like that he wanted it put on the open session for all to hear instead of being handled behind closed doors. So please re read the comments and see for yourself.

Thanks for the clarification ...Those three board members can talk all the good tallk they want but they will never get me and some of the others to follow or support that talk...I've been here to long and know to much about the doctor and his supporters...I agree that pig sty does need a good cleaning...

Thank you for letting us know. Those who are doing wrong, KNOW they are wrong. That's why they are kept so busy hiding things from the public. Just like Obama they are following his lead. These guys are scumbags, and some people are beginning to learn the truth. Maybe we will be able to clean up the pig sty at the hospital AND the City Council! My prayers go to that end.

Actually you are the one incorrect. It was placed on the Closed Session Agenda as requested by the CEO over Dr. Sahlolbei's objection with the blessing of the Attorney.
If the Hospital would place the recording on the website we could verify that. Almost a whole week and still no posting of the recording. Are we hiding something again or are we going to accidentally erase the incriminating stuff again?
