LETTER: A message from Mayor Mike Evans
Mike Evans, Blythe mayor
Mike Evans, Blythe mayor

Dear citizens of Blythe, I'm sincerely honored to accept this position of leadership and vow to respect and represent it to the highest of integrity that was bestowed upon me.

Going forward to our achievable success as a city, there are all of you know many obstacles to overcome that will be difficult, but are definitely achievable.

My first mayoral action is to form an ad hoc committee that will deal with public and private property. More specifically property that is an eyesore to the public's view and is also matters of health and safety.

That is one of many more items that will be addressed in my term of office. Yes, our roads are in major need of repair and that is only what we see, not even to mention the state of our infrastructure below.

Our men from public works are undermanned and have been working with bare necessities to get the job done, and they have the city and the public's best interest at hand. And these men have not had a raise in five years!

Other public safety departments and the administration have also been working with what was dealt them, and for certain it hasn't been a full deck. I feel reorganization of departments is necessary for success.

We, as a city, need to grow not only by promoting it with all the amenities we have to offer such as our year-round enjoyable weather, clean skies, beautiful golf course, the Colorado River, the beautiful Palo Verde Valley and its surrounding desert, the community college, the fairgrounds and Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway. I could keep going and never stop.

When someone or a family decides to move somewhere, the majority look into the demographics and its provisions provided. Such as water, schools, hospital, police force and crime rate.

We also need to grow as a family-orientated community and be able to provide them with these services.

I don't believe in wasting taxpayer's money on any studies to tell us what we need to bring in revenue. It's obvious and we all know it. It's time to clean house in Blythe, and for the record, I'm willing to take a broom to it!

Effective communication is a tool that has to be used by all of us and I'm looking forward to continually representimg your voice and working with my fellow councilmen.

Don't be afraid. I'm not! Improvise and overcome. United together we will all stand.

~ Mike Evans, Blythe City Mayor, (909) 915-4199

@....The Defender of Masculinity. Here I thought that the people were fed up with the War.

You are lucky to have moved away. Now if all of my haters could pitch in and buy my house. I would gladly go. I love this town, but there is no happiness here. When you have to travel to another town to get all of your personal needs/ medical care to boot. Only the well off and the people on government help can afford to live here.

One would think that things, could only get better. Seeing all of the other Cites along the river. But the people in charge here keep shooting themselves in the foot over and over again.

So Mr. Mayor are you going to say something about this Vigilante Clean up group? Or are you the one that is organizing it?

A while back on this web, I made a comment about taking all of the abandoned property that people left in those empty building. People got mad at me telling me that theses homeless people had rights. That it was against the law to do that.

So i say it people get mad at me. Now people do it. They take the persons property and the person and kick them out? Everyone is happy. No one is mad about abusing that persons rights.

I guess it just depends on what time of the year it is. I'm just saying be fair, if you kick one out then do the same to all. Because these people did what the police can't or won't do.

Hey did you guys read the Yuma news, they are putting signs on roads that are messed-up. called Primitive Road Signs. To let people know that if they are driving on that road. They are doing it at THEIR OWN RISK.

Maybe If Blythe did this it could save a lot of money on law suites for pothole damages??? It's an idea. right?

Also what about putting signs on empty building that if you are living in them and a group of strangers (Not The Police) come in and kick you out and throw your belongings out on the road. You are living there at your own risk.

The same here it could save a lot of money on law suits in case a person dies from hypothermia AFTER getting kicked out.

Mr. Mayor,
To be politically correct, since you are a politician, please obtain a telephone number with a 922 prefix. Geez, your current number isn't even in the 760 area code!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Article comment by: Mayor Mike Save PVH Chapel

While you are at it, see what you can do at the hospital. Just announced PVH will be closing the Chapel to turn it into a board room. Pink Ladies just walked out. . And the community donated the pews and stained glass.
So no helicopters to get us to higher level of care, and no place for a family to gather and pray for our sick loved ones.

I really wish people that tell people to shut up would just shut up. What does that mean anyway? Shut up??? Get in the corner and be quiet?? I don't care what you think??? The establishment in Blythe has not only told people to shut up for a long time they have shown them what happens if you don't. Just maybe the tide is turning around here.

For all you shut-up'rs that think you know how everything should run around here take a step back and look at the state of this city. The one that you created with your pals.

@Court Jester:"...just shut up for the Holidays." How Christmassy of YOU to want to step on first amendment rights. City employee, yes? Take a look at DHS and get a little picture of what is in Blythe's future. The city council there has just decreased salaries of the police and city workforce by 22.5%. This will be challenged in court, the final product will be bankruptcy and still a 22.5% cut in salaries and benefits for the city workforce. Yeah, Merry Christmas to you too.

I really wish people would just shut up for the holidays. Let the council do there thing. PV Hospital, Police, etc. Armchair quarterbacks are a dime a dozen and it promotes more bickering. If you want to complain, make sure your the first one to have a viable solution.
Merry Christmas to one and all.

Article comment by: Look at page 62 of Calimesa Police budget

$1,374,000 for the whole package. You can times it by three and still get below Blythe Police's $4,990,000. And every penny pays for boots on the ground, not "managers".

How about starting with the biggest expenses first and work down. Everyone will assume the vice-mayor will do what he can to save the department where he retired from, but the past is the past. Who cares when the same service can be had for over a million less? It will be the same cops with different colored uniforms. Just a lot cheaper and the money saved can be put toward code enforcement, cheaper, street repair and cheaper water bills. Why should it cost over $200 a month (sewage/trash/street lights) for a small business with one toilet and one sink, and that empties their one small trash can every other day? Wouldn't it be better for these offices to be occupied generating jobs and services?

Mayor do the responsible thing, everyone benefits and no one looses.
