LETTER: Let the children celebrate the seasons

We the parents, grandparents and guardians just received a letter from Palo Verde Head Start stating they will no longer have anything to do with any holiday events such as anything to do with Halloween, Christmas parade float, Thanksgiving food boxes, Christmas food boxes, Breakfast with Santa, community Christmas gifts, Santa Book Give-a-Way, Easter Food Boxes and Easter baskets from the prison because of "A concerned parent" (one parent).

How can one parent overrule the majority; it takes more than one person to change a law. If you don't want your child involved in what's going on just keep them home that day!

How can only one person tip the scale in their favor! They already took the "Pledge of Allegiance" from our kids in school what else are the going to take? ~ Michelle Dekens, Blythe

So what's next, Thanksgiving? Because the white Europeans came to the Americas, slaughtered and stole the land from the Natives. Also so what about Christopher Columbus? You know his day for discovering America, or so they say. Then because of him all of the slaughter started.

So it's OK for these Holidays to be celebrated? These are Holidays that we have days off work. Many people were killed, and it's OK. But I don't hear this mother saying anything about the SLAUGHTER of Millions, Bet she's planning a Turkey Dinner For Thanksgiving.

No wonder children don't want to attend school all the fun has been taken away from them all because of a couple people that want to ruin it for other children. Why don't they keep there children home and guard them from world. Pathetic how brain washed people can get..Try to turn fun into something bad. The schools need to get a back bone and quit bowing down to the few none believers!!! I don't believe that schools should not celebrate any of the holidays so you think that the school will put it back the way it has been done for years and years?? No easier for them to bow down to the few that want to take all of the fun that is left in a school away!!

I no longer live in Blythe but the many yrs that I lived in that area and drove a school bus I wittnessed this type of behavior. I believe all schools post what days they will be holding these special days. I have seen several children with sad eyes at Christmas and days they received treats, and not being able to take part. I noticed parents making their children arrive at school late so they wouldn't salute the flag and pray, I agree they should home teach or start their own church school.Don't cram your religion on other children. they have their own.

You the parents, grandparents , and guardians need to stand up for your kids , let your voice be heard !! they won't listen ... pull them all out of school the same day !! these kids are the future, all of our tomorrows, don't you want to pass on the tradition of participation in community parades , floats , food drives , helping your neighbor ... get up , get out there and stand up for your child !!

This is so sad. Growing up I had friends who didn't celebrate any holidays for religious beliefs and they just didn't celebrate but still got to eat cup cakes or whatever we had. I don't think this should change. If they want to call it fellowship then call it that every religion believes in that. What happened to separation of church and state. Schools can teach our children bout everything else which most parents wouldn't approve of and now they can't have Halloween or any other holiday.. I hope who ever these people are remember that when they go push their beliefs down others throat going door to door. I hope this stops and children are allowed to participate in these festivities if they choose to or if not stay home for the day.

There are other pre-schools in town. I
m not sure but I believe PVHeadstart relies on student count for funding. If you stage a full scale walkout of all those who feel as you do, perhaps you will get their attention.

To the parent wishing to stop all holiday activity ....If you feel that is best for your child all well and good....I am sure arrangements can be made for you to keep your child home on those days with an excused absence....Why would you want to be like Obama and the good doctor at the hospital....Parents fight for your children's rights....This parent is trying to drive his/her belief down your throat don't allow it....

All Western Holidays, along with God are out the window now. Look at the air force it will take god out now. In about 20 years from now. The citizens of America will be running around naked like heathens in a snow storm.

Don't worry with everything now Obama has put into the budget a prayer rug for every household. That should keep everyone warm on Christmas.

Honestly that is just stupid!! To take something fun for the kids away just because one parent's beliefs/or so called religion does not accept it. They should just not have their kid participate if that is how they feel. There should be a vote and the majority should win. Most parents like for our kids to be involved wiith holiday activities. Those were the best memories growing up as a child. To say the pledge, make christimas decorations and things for the holidays. There is always someone to ruin it for everyone. They need to take their child and home school them if they are that concerned about the school participating in any holiday events.

I totally agree. This is all part of the liberal plan to "cleanse" the American culture so that we are "transformed" into a socialist state. It is sad that all we American citizens can do is state our disdain for the loss of our values. We need to take brave action but we are afraid.

That is so sad. These children need an incentive to keep on with school. When we were young, we had all of this and it was fun. And when it was time to study, we did. I no longer have any children in school, but what with they are doing nowadays, I'm glad because they were able to do all this and both my son and grandson graduated. They all need some fun in their life. I hope all mother's and father's fight this decision.
