LETTER Fix the roads first

I have a great idea that will save the city of Blythe $5 million in hard earned taxpayers dollars. Why not refurbish the old unemployment building on E. Hosonway and use that for a visitor's center (which is a joke within itself)?

Just like the joke of the useless sign in the median of Hobsonway when they completed their "Uglifacation project on Hobsonway.

Sorry, no car parking here, motorcycles will fit in that space but not an F250.

And what will this alleged visitors center house? Two pamphlets? One for golfing and one for bowling? And if you don't work for the government (i.e., a correctional officer at one of the prisons or for the state or city public services) you cannot afford a watercraft or desert toy.

There is nothing here that would attract a week-long visitor to stay here. And why even entertain the idea of moving the westbound I-10 offramp a half-mile west??

Oh wait, I just figured it out; half-mile less of dodging the enormous craters on East Hobsonway.

Use that $5 million and like our wise councilmember "Mike Evans said, "fix the streets!"

The whole east end of Blythe is blight. Fix what you got first, then move on.

- Gloria Vindhurst, Blythe

If you protest the off ramp relocation & the Welcome Center by refusing to pay your utility bill. It won't get the City Officials attention, but it will get your attention, when you don't have electricity, gas and water. So maybe you might want to come up with a different idea. :0)

ok so spend the 5 mil on the roads one time - wow what an investment - when and how will that generate the revenue to return the 5 mill + interest to taxpayers?? Blythians need new roads but we need to invest as well in something that will actually return the money + interest to the taxpayer.

I love Blythe but mein furor Obama's not going to allow me to retire. I don't live in Blythe but I do lots of fishing and hunting. Blythe already has a welcome center its called B&B bait and tackle. I agree with the citizenry fix the (deleted) roads or boot the council out. 5mil is a lot of cash. Make the money work. If it gets wasted on welcome center non sense. Yall be better off buying super lotto quick picks cause yer just wasting money. Boot'em out.

Whadaya think, folks? Is it time? The time for us to come together when there is a family or individual has a tragedy and we pitch in to do what we can - for our friends? If we wait much longer, we'll go the way of San Bernardino, and others. "I won't happen to us" is Bull. They said it, too, and every inmate probably said something like that. If the City Council won't/can't do the job, then we must apply the pressure and keep it on until they listen to US, rather than the City Manager and his special friends. Let's be "nice" about it but make ourselves absolutely clear that their attitudes and actions suck.

If the city insists on this off-ramp relocation / welcome center, maybe the citizens should protest by refusing to pay their utility bill. Do you think that might get their attention?

I agree - the roads in east Blythe are horrendous. That would not be a bad allocation for those funds.

In response to 'Go To The Meeting TONITE
I have been to council meetings but sometimes people have to go out of town (you know, to shop somewhere with decent prices, go to the movies (and if your smart, see the film/bio 2016: Obama's America) and to Dr.'s appts. Sadly, even to go to McDonald's. What about people who work swing shift? They just can't take off work and tell their boss' that they are leaving early, or they will be late because of a City Council meeting. But that does not mean that we don't care. We respond to articles (the opinions of council members) that are printed in the paper. therefore, we must respond with our own opinions via the paper.

Please fix the road at north Palm and Bernard..Officers responding to calls on Palm come flying turning the corner hitting huge pot holes that could cause a fatal accident. This is not being excoriated .It's for their safety as well as others..If any city official has doubts please come check it out.

@Peace please be still. Now you want a boys and girls club. When these people can not afford to take care of the City's needs. Because to much time is spent feeding their egos, that they want to leave a legacy. So no matter who gets hurts or how they do it. That is what they will do.

Blythe officials aren't interested in fixing roads or listening to people. Look at the City Council agenda all Lane cares about is pouring more money (over $600,000) into the stink-hole (sic) of a Welcome Center he and Deconinck (sic per agenda) want. I say every resident against the Welcome Center stink make it a point to tell Deconinck and Lane everytime you see them in town that you do not want their dream. If you want to find them just go to PVC, one or both of them are there every day for lunch.
