LETTER: Traveler grateful to be stuck in Blythe

On Nov. 2, I left Lake Charles, La. en route to Burbank, Calif. Friday and Saturday were great days and nights and on the third day, Sunday, the plan was to leave Phoenix, Ariz. and complete my travel.

I had planned to stop in Blythe for a brief rest and I pulled off the interstate and was searching where to stop when smoke began to appear from underneath the hood.

My first thought...what am I to do traveling alone? And it was a Sunday.

A gentleman approached my car, raised the hood and took care of the smoke situation. That gentleman, Dan Smith, a resident of your community, took charge, called ACE Tire and Automotive and arranged for the towing.

He also stayed with me until the car was towed and arranged for the business to determine the problem.

Employees of ACE Tire and Automotive wasted no time in discovering the problem and attempting to obtain needed parts. Parts had to be ordered so the employees made arrangements for me at America's Best Value Inn.

I had a short stay in your community from Nov. 4 until Nov. 7. Everyone who I was in contact with was gracious, helpful and concerned. This is a rare quality for a community to treat a perfect stranger in such a manner. I am confidant that Mr. Smith was a Godsend to me.

On my return trip I will not have to search for a place to stop. I am acquainted with the Courtesy Coffee Shop.

Sincerely, a very thankful traveler.

- Rosa Mae Dowers, DeQuincy, La.
