11/6/2012 5:00:00 PM LETTER: Donate coats to the needy
What with all the crud we are being hammered with by political 'activists,' the title alone should be enough to capture your attention. Assuming that I have done that, got your attention.
One more time I am going to attempt to interest you, and you, too, in finding it within yourself to give a little bit of your outdated, worn, surplus 'stuff' to those who wander through our town without the benefit of a permanent place to call home. Coats, shoes, blankets and other serviceable apparel are all needed by them. One particular item that is much coveted is socks.
A package of socks sells for less than $10 at K-Mart. If you have any of these items, and feel like giving them to the less fortunate ones among us, simply box, or bag them up, and deliver them to the Harmony Kitchen.
Unfortunately, circumstances will prevent me from being able to come pick up donations this year.
I am aware that the economy is tight and that many of us don't have much that we are willing to part with, but let me assure you, no matter how small your gift is, it will make a difference to someone who has nothing. The response to my appeal for donations last year was very good and I was at the Harmony Kitchen to watch those goods being passed out - and I did not see a single person with disappointment on their face. Let's make this year just as good.
