Access roads in the Blythe area scheduled for repavement
Special to the Times

BLYTHE, Calif. - Four access roads outside Blythe city limits will get resurfaced by the Riverside County Transportation Department. The Board of Supervisors this week unanimously approved the work, which will be performed in-house by county transportation crews.

"The Palo Verde Valley will get improvements to four access roads used by agriculture and industry," said Supervisor John J. Benoit. "These roads are part of the county's approximately 2,100 miles of roads we maintain in the grid to keep commerce moving."

Two of the roads are located between the unincorporated communities of Ripley and Mesa Verde, south of Interstate 10 and south of Blythe city limits. They are 22nd Avenue, from Rannells Boulevard to Keim Boulevard, and Defrain Boulevard, from 18th Avenue to Seeley Avenue.

Chuckwalla Valley Road, approximately halfway between Desert Center and Blythe, will be paved from 4.7 miles west of Ford Dry Lake Road to 6.7 miles west of Ford Dry Lake Road.

Midland Road, to the northwest of Blythe, will be paved from 1.2 miles northwest of Williams Avenue to 2.4 miles northwest of Williams Avenue.

The total cost of the work is $1,142,000 and will be funded largely by local transportation funds, with the remaining 16 percent from the state funds.

Construction is expected to be completed by the end of June.
