BLYTHE - The first annual Habitat Lights Festival at Appleby Elementary was Dec. 12. The evening's event was a celebration of the habitat area that the staff and students can utilize as an outdoor classroom.
Volunteers decorated the area with hundreds of lights donated by Appleby friends and families. Families were invited to walk the habitat trail and enjoy the beautiful scene. Members of the Blythe Astronomy Club set up their telescopes and offered those attending the chance to see the beautiful views in the sky as well.
In the cafeteria, families were given the chance to participate in a variety of activities while they enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate or another treat. Children of all ages made ornaments, decorated cookies, planted native seeds, made sachets of native plants. Even Santa Claus attended and posed for pictures.
The turnout was tremendous and the event was a huge success. The staff thanks those who participated in the celebration and all who donated time or materials.
