Jacket swimmers split final IVL dual meet

BLYTHE, Calif. - The Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket swim team wrapped up their dual-meet season this past Wednesday at the Palo Verde High School swimming pool as they hosted Imperial.

The Jacket boys overwhelmed their Tiger counterparts by a 98-30 margin while the Lady Tigers returned the favor on the girls' side with a resounding 90-51 triumph.

Justin Hall and Christian Evans led the Jacket boys as each won two events and were a part of two relay teams that won as Palo Verde won 10 of the 11 events contested. Hall won the 50-freestyle and the 100 breaststroke while Evans was good for firsts in the 100-butterfly and the 500-freestyle.

The duo teamed with Joshua Januscheski and Frankie Hughes to win the 200-medley relay then joined with Trace Mefford and Andre Bonnet for a victory in the 200-freestyle relay.

The Jacket team of Riley Shields, Ricky Marquez, Chris Perez, and Nathan Tribby claimed first in the 400-freestyle relay as the Jackets won all three relays. Other Jacket firsts came from Mefford in the 200-individual medley, Hughes in the 100-freestyle, and Marquez in the 100 backstroke.

Shields added seconds in the 200-freestyle and the 100-butterfly while Mefford was second in the 500-freestyle, and Bonnet was second in the 50-freestyle. Hughes and Perez scored with thirds in the 100-breaststroke and 200-freestyle respectively.

The Lady Jackets only won two individual firsts and both were claimed by Margaret Robertson as she won the 50-freestyle and the 100-breaststroke. The other Lady Jacket first came in the 400-freestyle relay as Kasandra Rascon, Brianna Birmingham, Nicole White, and Sabrina Valle won the race.

The relay team of Robertson, Alexis Morales, Lauren Rizzotto, and Shelby Courter placed second in the 200-medley relay and the 200-freestyle relay. The other second came from Rizzotto in the 500-freestyle while Courter finished third in the 200-freestyle and Morales was third in the 100-freestyle.

The swimmers completed their regular season schedule on May 15 at the IVL Championships in Brawley.
