BLYTHE, Calif. - Both the boys' and Girls' track teams claimed their first Imperial Valley League victories as they out-manned Holtville at Scott Stadium last Thursday afternoon. The same problem that has been the problem for the locals was in their favor against the Vikings as boys and girls had the numbers in their favor with the boys claiming a 94-33 win while the Lady Jackets prevailed by a 71-37 count.

The Jacket boys claimed wins in ten of the 15 events on the day while scoring sweeps in five events while the Lady Jackets swept three events and had firsts in eight of the 14 contested events.

Perhaps the most interesting item of the day was Lady Jacket distance runner Star Rojas as she ran all three of the longer distance events winning the 1600 and 800-meter races and finishing second to teammate Audrey Castillo in the 3200 distance. Between races, Rojas traveled across the campus to the PVHS pool to participate with the Jacket swim team as they hosted an IVL meet as well. Castillo was the runner-up in both the 1600 and 800 races.

Shelby Cyr was back and won her three events, the high, long and triple jumps as the Jackets swept the long and triple jumps while Ty Daniels led a sweep in the shot put and Andrea Garnica was first in the sweep of the discus.

Kennedy Cox was second in the long and triple jumps while Kaily Lee was third in the long jump and second in the high jump.

Andrea Valenzuela was second in the shot put and third in the discus while Garnica finished third in the shot put and Elisa Tellez was second in the discus.

Other Lady Jacket scoring came from Ty Johnson as she finished second in the 400 meter and third in the 200-meter dash.

The Jacket boys swept all but one of the field events with Steven Valdez leading the sweep in the discus and shot put while Terry Daniels did likewise in the high and triple jumps while collecting a second in the long jump.

D.J. Burton led a sweep for the Jackets in the 300-meter hurdles and also claimed a first in the 110 high hurdles along with a second in the high jump.

Felix Ruiz won both the 1600 and 800-meter runs while Markel Noble paced the Jacket sweep of the long jump with a win and Carlos Dorame won the 400.

Marcus Ramirez grabbed seconds in the 1600, 3200, and 300 hurdles while Pete Sandoval was second in the shot and third in the discus as Dorame added a third in the 200 and Henry Miranda was third in the shot and Eric Hernandez finished second in the 800.

Kyle Martin took second in the triple jump and added a third in the high jump while Miquel Esquibel was third in the 300 hurdles and Jordan Velarde was third in the long jump.

The Jacket 4 X 100 relay opened the scoring for the Jackets as Dorame anchored the team of Brandon Johnson, Velarde, and Jose Gaytan in their win.

Johnson and Gaytan finished second and third respectively in the 100-meter dash and Treshawn Edmond added a third in the 400 meters while Michael Townsend was third in the triple jump.

The Jackets traveled to the Chandler Invitational on Saturday and were back in Scott Stadium on Monday for a nonleague dual with Desert Mirage.
