BLYTHE, Calif. - The Palo Verde High School soccer teams reached the halfway mark of the Imperial Valley League season last week as they hosted teams from Calexico. Unfortunately for the Jackets, the games with the Bulldogs didn't go favorably for the locals.

The Lady Jackets fell to their Calexico counterparts 3-0 while the Jacket boys managed a goal but were outscored by the Bulldogs 5-1 in the contest.

Calexico built a 3-0 advantage in the first half and then outscored the Jackets 2-1 after the intermission for the win.

Damian Ramirez scored the Jacket goal on an assist from Felix Ruiz.

Earlier in another home matchup, the Jackets came up empty against Holtville as the boys were shutout 2-0 after the girls had dropped a 4-2 contest to the Lady Vikings.

Daniela Pena and Destiny Rivera scored the goals for the Jackets.

The Jacket boys saw Holtville score on a long shot from the right wing to break a scoreless tie midway through the opening half and the Vikings opened up a 2-0 lead just a few minutes later on a penalty shot.

Neither team could find the net for the rest of the game despite the Jackets having several good chances to score over the game's final 50 minutes.

The Lady Jackets stand at 1-4-1 at the halfway mark of the IVL season while the boys stand at 1-3-2.

The highlight of the 10-day period came during the Jacket bye date when the boys traveled to Calipatria for a non-league contest and came away with a 6-2 win on the road.

Palo Verde led 4-2 at the half and added a pair of insurance tallies after the break.

Ruiz earned player of the game honors as he scored one goal and assisted on two others while Ramirez added to his goal total with a pair of goals.

Jaime Pena and Isai Gonzalez each netted a goal and assisted on another while Chris Navarro scored the other Jacket goal. Robert Lal and Josue Chavez assisted on the other two Jacket goals.

The Jackets will complete their home season this week. They hosted Brawley on Tuesday and Southwest will come to Scott Stadium on Friday for their contests with the Jackets.
