BLYTHE - The 18th Annual Jacket Scramble, hosted by Palo Verde High School at the Blythe Golf Course, saw 12 teams participate this year. Teams are made up of three pairs, each playing a scramble format. Team score is the total of the three pairs.
In the history of the event, LaQuinta and Palm Desert High Schools have dominated and this year was no different unless you consider Mother Nature keeping her hands in the works with high winds causing scores to go higher than usual. LaQuinta brought two teams to the event and placed first and third on the team side of things while Palm Desert took second.
The Palo Verde Yellow Jacket golf team also put two teams in the mix and the Palo Verde "A" team placed fourth with a team total of 237 as the pair of Logan Whiting and Darien Herrera carded a three over par 76 and finished eighth in the individual pairs standings.
Also for Palo Verde, the brother team of Phillip and Andrew Thome finished 11th as they carded a 77 while Jon Whiting and Dillon Smith completed the Jacket scoring with a round of 84.
The Palo Verde "B" team finished 10th as a team with a 291 total as Chad Winkler teamed with Josh Messerli and shot a round of 86 while Chad Smith and Anthony Crawford managed a round of 95 and Gabe Lucero and Andrew Berg carded a 110.
Jacket coaches Ken Fletcher and Randy Peterson saw their run at the top of the coach's flight come to an end as their round of 73 was eclipsed by Armando Escobedo and Francisco Morales of Coachella who carded a two-under par 71 to take the Coach's Award.
In all, 10 schools were represented at the event as the rest of the Imperial Valley League along with the three Coachella Valley schools were joined by River Valley and Parker from across the river.
