Palo Verde Valley Times

After three games on the road to open Imperial Valley League play, the Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket boys' soccer team found the environment very conducive for victory as they dispatched Imperial 6-1 at Scott Stadium on Friday.

The Jackets got three goals from Damian Ramirez and the first-year soccer player earned player of the game honors for his hat trick.

Ramirez is well known for his accomplishments on the football field as he led Division 5 receivers of the San Diego Section this past season and with Scott Stadium transformed for soccer it was obvious Ramirez felt comfortable in soccer cleats.

Felix Ruiz scored two goals and assisted on another while Pedro Sanchez accounted for the other Jacket goal. Josue Chavez and Chris Navarro were also credited with an assist apiece.

Earlier in the week, the Jackets completed their three-game road trip with their first loss of the season in El Centro as the Eagles of Southwest edged the locals by a 2-1 count. Ruiz had the goal for the Jackets on an assist from Juan Camacho.

The Jackets have a 1-1-2 record after two weeks of IVL play.

The Lady Jackets stand at 1-2-1 through their two weeks of play after falling 9-0 at Southwest then rebounding somewhat with a 4-4 tie with Imperial.

At Southwest, the Lady Eagles dominated play as they hit the net five times before the intermission and added four more goals in the second half.

Against Imperial, the Lady Jackets trailed at the intermission but tallied three times in the second half to pull out the 4-4 tie.

Daniela Pena led the Jacket scoring with a pair of goals while Emma Rocha scored a goal and had an assist. Victoria Augustin had the other Jacket goal while Destiny Rivera was credited with an assist.

The Jackets were scheduled to host Holtville in the third week of play along with having their bye.

The Jacket boys were scheduled to play a nonleague affair in Calipatria on Friday.
