BLYTHE - The Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket cross country team travels to San Diego tomorrow for the Division Finals. Palo Verde will participate in the Division 4 races.
The relatively young Jackets team have only three of the 14 athletes making the trip who are seniors.
Starr Rojas, the lone senior runner for the girls, will be joined by juniors, Audrey Castillo, Mima Astorga, and Anisa Noriega along with three sophomores, Leticia Covarrubias, Sabrina Valle, and Destiny Rivera.
The boys have two seniors, Chris Perez and Eric Hernandez, who make their final trip to the CIF/San Diego Section meet. Juniors Miguel Esquibel, Jacob Jones, and Bobby Soto, make the journey with a pair of freshmen, Nicolas Andrews and Adam Garcia, who round out the boys' team for the event.
"We've had a very interesting season," said Jacket cross country coach, Tim Jorgensen.
"The boys were ranked as high as seventh earlier in the season and the girls were fifth, but neither are currently ranked."
According to Jorgensen, Palo Verde finished second of the Division 4 teams in the Imperial Valley League this season while finishing sixth overall in the IVL.
"Our CIF standing has been back and forth this year," Jorgensen said.
"If we run well on Saturday, anything can happen."
All the divisions will run their races at Balboa Park in San Diego.
