BLYTHE - After dropping all three of their dual matches at the Parker Duals, the Palo Verde High School wrestling team fell to Imperial this past Wednesday in an Imperial Valley League match.

"At Parker we had to switch a few weight classes around to make the most of the team," said Jacket wrestling coach, Frank Borboa. "Unfortunately, we just couldn't pull it off."

Palo Verde was beaten by River Valley 43-36 then lost to Yuma Catholic 42-30 before falling to Parker by a 42-33 count.

The Jackets used two different wrestlers at the 106 weight but came up empty while Frankie Borboa moved up a weight to 113 and recorded a 1-2 record for the day.

Angel Gomez (120) claimed a pair of forfeit wins and a 6-0 decision over his River Valley opponent to go unbeaten for the day while Eric Hernandez (126) also had the benefit of a couple of forfeits before dropping his lone bout of the day to his Parker opponent.

Shawn Garrett (132) and Jonathan Smith (145) each posted a 1-2 mark for the day while teammate Chris Shoemate (152) was 2-1 in his three bouts.

Josh Messerli (170) also won two of three while RJ Waymire was one for three for his day.

Steven Valdez (220) claimed a pair of decisions and a forfeit win on the day while Dion Wilson (HWT) had a couple of forfeit wins but dropped his only match of the meet with a 4-1 decision to his Yuma Catholic foe.

Hoping to pick up their second IVL win in a row, the Jackets traveled to Imperial but came up short as the Tigers claimed a 46-33 win.

Imperial gave up three weights while the Jackets didn't have wrestlers in two but the Tigers won six of the nine weights contested, five by pin.

Smith (147) and Waymire (197) picked up the gratis points for the Jackets while Brandon Barron (140) and Messerli (172) each pinned their Imperial foes..

Wilson (HWT) returned to his winning ways for Palo Verde as he claimed a 3-1 decision from his Tiger opponent.

The Jackets will complete their IVL season Wednesday when they travel to Holtville and will return to Holtville this weekend for the Viking Invitational.

League finals have been reinstituted this season and they will be held in Brawley on Feb. 6 and the CIF/San Diego Section Finals are scheduled for Feb. 16.
