BLYTHE - The Palo Verde High School boys' basketball team is still searching for their first win of 2013 as they dropped a pair of home games this week.

On Tuesday, the Jackets opened Desert League play as they hosted league favorite, Imperial, in their conference opener and fell by an 85-43 count.

On Thursday in the first cross over with the Imperial Valley League, the Jackets dropped a 68-47 game to the Eagles of Southwest.

In both contests the locals started fast but couldn't maintain. Against Imperial the Jackets led 9-6 midway through the opening period before the very athletic Tiger squad went on a 17-0 run to end the quarter and never looked back. The Tigers led 44-21 at the intermission and outscored Palo Verde 41-22 in the second half.

Richard Henderson was the only Jacket in double figures as he accounted for 13 of the Jacket points. Rafael Adame tallied eight points while Jon Whiting and Kane Daniels were each good for seven points. Joseph Diaz was good for four counters while Vederi Atiyota and Phillip Bias completed the Jacket scoring with two points apiece.

Again the Jackets opened up an early lead in their game with Southwest but saw their guests pull even at the end of the opening quarter.

The two squads matched baskets in the opening minutes of the second stanza but the Eagles broke a 20-20 tie midway through the second period and outscored the locals 13-4 for the rest of the half and never trailed again.

Palo Verde was within striking distance heading into the final period but the Eagles put the game way with a 21-13 scoring edge in the final quarter.

Bias was the only Jacket in double figures with 12 points while Henderson chipped in nine counters, all in the first half. Daniels was good for seven points and Whiting scored six. Atiyota managed five points while Darien Herrera and Adame rounded out the Jacket scoring with four points apiece.

"We continue to show flashes of good play," said Jacket coach George Dagnino. "Unfortunately we just can't seem to keep it going. We'll keep working and try to get better each time we take the floor."

The Jackets were on the road at Calipatria on Tuesday for their second league contest and will host Brawley in another crossover with the IVL Friday at the PVHS gym.

Great news everyone! On Tuesday night (the 22nd) both the J.V. and Varsity teams posted victories against Calipatria. I was very proud of my sons and the entire team for that matter. The Varsity game was a nail biter with the locals winning in double OT on a miracle buzzer beater three pointer by Kane Daniels. You had to be there to believe it. Hopefully there is more of this to come.

In all my year following PV Athletics I dont think I have ever have seen anything like this what a mess. I know one thing "A GOOD COACH" knows when Its time to go and a good School Board should know also!!. Come on PVUSD Board Members, Coach/AD, let someone else in this is ridiculous! No one is hating Its just time for someone else to Coach. How do ya spell Recruitiing time!!! The record shows it! This good ol' boy system isnt working. WAKE UP PVUSD Board this isnt right at all and it is your job to pay attention. Its simply shows (deleted) not wanting anyone else in there....Its very sad!

As good as these young men are it's hard to win with,(deleted) OK, let's go with coach. Come on people... wake up, we deperately need new coaching staff for not only Basketball, but Football as well. I wonder why every other sport seems to win at least every once in a while? There seems to be one common denominator, If he really does have our kids and sports program best interest then it would take a REAL MAN to admit he is just not getting it done and let someone try. Hell I could coach the basketball team to a winless season, in fact, my 7 year old could too. All in favor of my 7 year old coaching next years basketball team say Aye!!!
The Ayes have it! In the immortal words of NSYNC I say to you coach D******, BYE, BYE, BYE!
