BLYTHE, Calif. - Four Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket track team members earned spots in this weekend's CIF/San Diego Section track prelims in San Diego by virtue of their performances at Monday's Imperial Valley League Finals at Southwest High School in El Centro. The league finals had been originally scheduled for Thursday of last week but all athletic activity in the San Diego Section had been postponed due to the fires in San Diego.
Markel Noble, a sophomore at PVHS, will be returning to the prelims after winning the 200-meter event at the league finals this year with a time of 22.27. He also claimed the long jump with a leap of 22'3", placing him in the top ten of the section for the season.
Nobel posted the best time in both the 100 and 200-meter races at the IVL Prelims but slipped to sixth in the 100-meter race and failed to advance in that event.
Freshman high jumper, Terry Daniels, also earned a spot in the section prelims after tying for first with a 5'10" effort in that event.
On the girls' side, Shelby Cyr finished second in the high jump with a jump of 4'10" and Ty Daniels was also the runnerup in the shot put with her toss of 30'9".
In other boys' final results, the Yellow Jacket boys' 4 X 400 relay team of Carlos Dorame, Tyrell Black, Treshawn Edmond, and Jordan Velarde finished fourth.
Gayton was seventh in the 100 and Black finished fifth in the 400 while Nick Andrews, also just a freshman, finished 10th in the 3200 meters and D.J. Burton was fourth in both hurdle races.
Top event for the Jackets was the long jump as Palo Verde claimed four of the top seven places in the event. In addition to Noble winning, Damien Ramirez was fourth, Jordan Velarde finished fifth, and Daniels was seventh.
Other top Lady Jacket finishers saw Ty Johnson finish eighth in the 200 and 400 while Star Rojas was eighth in both the 800 and 1600 distance races. Audrey Castillo was ninth in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs.
