BLYTHE, Calif. - The Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket boys' basketball team dropped its final two basketball games over the final week of the season.

Close losses at Holtville and Calexico on the road ended any hopes for a post-season spot in the CIF playoffs.

The Jackets saw their Desert League season record slip to 2-4 in Holtville where the Vikings rallied in the final quarter to pull out a 42-38 victory.

After battling on even terms through the first two periods, the Jackets used an 11-6 scoring edge in the third stanza to take a 26-23 advantage into the fourth quarter but the Vikings nearly doubled their point total in the final period as they scored 19 points.

The Jackets also had their best scoring quarter of the night in the fourth but only managed 12 counters to fall by four.

Eight different Jackets scoring in the contest but no one was good for double figures as Kane Daniels led the way with nine points. Jordan Velarde came next with eight points while Destin Cross, Andre Hernandez, and Darien Herrera each accounted for five. Logan Whiting scored four, Richard Henderson tallied three, and Fernando Mejia completed the Jacket scoring with two.

Palo Verde played better in their season finale in their final cross over game with the Imperial Valley League's Calexico Bulldogs but still came up on the short end of a 65-63 contest.

Velarde tossed in 12 of his team high 16 points in the opening half as the Jackets managed a two-point advantage at the intermission. Herrera scored all 13 of his points in the second half including three buckets from three-point range but the Bulldogs also used a late rally to pull out the victory as they outscored the locals 18-11 in the final period to claim the win.

Daniels and Cross also scored in double figures as they accounted for 12 and 10 points respectively while Henderson had six points, Whiting scored four, and Rafael Adame rounded out the scoring with two. Palo Verde finished the season with a 5-17 overall record.
