The Palo Verde High School Yellow Jacket football team begins their string of three straight Imperial Valley League football games on the road in Brawley tonight.
The Jackets are 4-3 on the season and tied with the Wildcats in third place in the IVL with 1-1 marks.
Brawley is coming off a 29-10 loss to Imperial in their showdown game a week ago and will most likely look to take their frustrations out on the Jackets.
The teams have had no common opponents this season to date, but the Wildcats have dispatched handily Hoover of San Diego, Coachella, Cibola and Gila Ridge of Yuma, along with Calexico while suffering a narrow loss to Valley Center in addition to last week's game with Imperial.
Brawley will feature a wing power running game on offense with four running backs who will get a significant amount of carries according to Jacket defensive coordinator, David Atiyota.
"Their running backs have good vision and their line is very physical up front," Atiyota said. "Their goal will be to pound the rock as much as possible and control the clock."
Ross Rubio (11) is the Wildcat quarterback and runs the option very well along with commanding the offense efficiently according to Atiyota.
Issak Comparan (10), Bryce Alexander (27), and Nico Aguirre (9) will join Rubio in the Brawley backfield.
Donavin Buck (3), a Brawley linebacker, leads a base 50-cover three defense the Wildcats employ.
"Brawley stops the run and is a physical, gang-tackling team," said Jacket offensive coordinator, Ryan Copple. "They're very fast and quick at reacting along with closing down angles in a hurry."
Up front, the Cats feature a solid line that is very athletic. Austin Hale (7), Remington Campbell (51), Jacob Ordonez (54), and Steven Baeza (17) will team with Buck on the defensive side.
Palo Verde coaches feel that executing and playing smart, sound football is paramount if the Jackets expect to be successful tonight.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Warne Field in Brawley.
Other IVL games tonight feature Central (2-0) at Southwest (0-2) in the El Centro city championship while 2-0 Imperial takes on 0-2 Calexico.

Wow! 65-7 looks like Brawley ran up the score. Like I continue to say you have play competition in the pre season. Looks like we r going to be 4-6 on the season one more win then last year. With 19 seniors on the team. Well, good luck P.V.
