BLYTHE - Weather was the only winner at Scott Stadium this past Friday as the scheduled meeting between Indio and Palo Verde was postponed due to lightning.
As the two teams were concluding their pregame warm-up drills, a lightning delay was issued. Each time a lightning bolt of near proximity was noted the delay, or new clock of 30 minutes, added to the stoppage and extended the delay.
After nearly two hours, game officials, school administration, and both Jacket and Rajah coaches felt a postponement was in the best interest of both players and fans.
The game will be played on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Scott Stadium with a scheduled 6 p.m. kickoff.
What it means to the Jackets is a current two-week break between games, another two-week span without a game after Friday's trip to Shadow Hills, and finally a stretch of three games in eight days for the Jackets as they complete their non-league campaign.
Desert Hot Springs will be in Scott Stadium on Sept. 27 before the game with Indio on Oct. 1 and the Jackets will travel to Holtville on Oct. 4.
The Jackets will begin Imperial Valley League play on Oct. 11 when they host Central at Scott Stadium.
