Juan Roberto Donez, Jr.

Juan Roberto Donez, Jr., known to many as Bobby, passed away peacefully on Nov. 13, 2013 in Palm Springs, Calif. at the age of 66. He was born on Feb. 4, 1947 to Hortencia and Juan R. Donez, Sr. in Brawley, Calif.

A few months later, following Bobby's birth, the family moved to Blythe where he lived the majority of his life, raising his family and making lifelong friends. In 1992, his job with Pan American Underwriters brought him to Bakersfield, Calif. In 2001, he went to work for Walter Mortensen Insurance until his retirement in January 2013.

A Navy veteran, Bobby spent four years in Vietnam aboard the USS Okinawa. After being honorably discharged, he embarked on a full life surrounded by loved ones. He lived life to the fullest, volunteering his time with numerous youth sports leagues in both Blythe and Bakersfield. He enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Yankees, and working on small projects around his house.

He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 41 years, Mary Helen; his three sons, Jason (Jayme), Tony (Melissa), and Marc; and five beautiful grandchildren, Joaquin, Savannah, Giselle, Mia, and Lola. He also leaves behind his three brothers, Frank, Gilbert, and Mike; his sister Mary; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved chocolate lab, Marley.

A public viewing will take place at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary Nov. 21, 2013 from 5-8 p.m., with Rosary at 6 p.m. Church services will be at St. Phillip the Apostle Nov. 22, 2013 at 9:30am.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Bobby's name to the American Heart Association and/or the American Lung Association.

I grew up as Bobby's neighbor and friend. He and his brother Frank kept me in trouble, at least that's what I told my mom. Bobby was a hard worker and a genuine honest person, just like his dad was. The good die young, Bobby just proved it.
