OBITUARY: Ruperto Jose 'Joe' Sanchez

Ruperto Jose "Joe" Sanchez, 66, longtime Palo Verde Valley resident, born March 27, 1946, in Chihuahua, Mexico, passed away on July 25, 2012 in Palm Desert, Calif.

Joe spent his working years in agriculture; he loved the work that he did and spent his spare time involved in everything from volunteering at local organizations to enjoying his family to visiting friends, always keeping busy.

He had a love for learning and could often be found at the local library where he spent Thursday evenings with his kids, a tradition that he kept for years. Anywhere that Joe was you were sure to hear music; there was never a radio that was too far away and it was always on.

Joe was known to always have an open door; if you needed a place to stay, no matter how long, you would find it with him. He was very generous with the possessions he had, there was no limit to what he shared. A few of his favorite movies, like The Wizard of Oz, Mighty Joe Young and The Shawshank Redemption, share common themes of justice and family relationships that were significant throughout his life.

Joe had a variety of interests including John Wayne, anything John Deere, music and radios, Native American and American history, books, classic cars, and collecting anything that he thought someone may need or like. Many valley residents may remember him as being a kind hearted, generous, caring, giving human being. He had a lot of town pride and would share stories of how much Blythe had changed since the time his family arrived in the valley.

Joe leaves behind a large family including the mother of his children, Estela Sanchez; children, Marisela Espinoza, Josefa Sanchez, Ruby Sanchez, Angel Enrique Sanchez and Daisy Sanchez; grandchildren, Raymond Jacob Ruiz, Raiden Ruiz, Ruben Gabriel Ruiz and Diego Enrique Sanchez; brothers, Emilio Sanchez and Manuel Sanchez; and sisters, Guadalupe Velasco, Ruth Leivas, Racquel Duenaz, Mariana Crane and Ramona Douglas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in passing by his mother, Cleofas Sanchez; father, Liborio Sanchez; brothers, Alberto Sanchez and Rosario Sanchez; and son, Gabriel Sanchez.

Visitation will be at Frye Chapel on Aug. 1, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. with Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be on Aug. 2, 2012 at 9 a.m. at Iglesia Bautista de Blythe, located on the corner of Chanslorway and Solano. Burial services will follow the funeral at Palo Verde Cemetery in Blythe.

I worked with Joe many years ago at High and Mighty Farms. Joe was a very friendly, very hard working, very positive and a very giving person...He always liked to smile and laugh...
I'm gonna miss seeing him around town...
