BLYTHE, Calif. - Yesterday, Palo Verde Healthcare District Board appointed former Palo Verde Healthcare District Board members, Dr. David Brooks and Carmela Garnica, to the seats vacated by Beatrice "Quitty" Piñon and Catalina "Cat" McLain in May.

Brooks, Garnica, and local businessman David Kehl each submitted an application to the Palo Verde Healthcare District Board for appointment.

Following an open question and answer period at the beginning of the June 25 PVHD Board of Directors meeting, director Sandy Hudson and board president Trina Sartin both voted for Brooks and Garnica while board secretary Sam Burton voted for Kehl and Garnica.

Brooks previously served on the Palo Verde Healthcare District Board of Directors from 2002 until he resigned because of health reasons in 2006. Garnica served from 2004-2008.

PVHD general counsel, Jeffrey Scott conducted the oath of office for the newly appointed directors.

Brooks and Garnica director positions expire this coming December. Sartin encouraged all applicants to run for the seats in the November election.

The next regularly scheduled PVHD Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for July 9 in the City of Blythe City Council Chambers, 235 N. Broadway, at 5 p.m.
