Juvenile arrested for stolen gun
Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Blythe Police found a 13-year-old boy to be in possession of guns and ammunition after speaking with his mother on Nov. 10.

Cpl. Terry Reynolds and Sgt. Joshua Coe responded to the 2000 block of E. Hobsonway after receiving a call concerning the juvenile.

On arrival, officers spoke with the boy and his mother who told the officers that the juvenile had the guns and ammo. After collecting the guns and ammo, the guns were checked to see if they had been reported stolen. Although the information received was that the guns were not reported stolen, the guns were identified as registered to an individual living in the same apartment complex.

The individual confirmed that they belonged to him and that he didn't know that they were missing.

The juvenile was arrested and taken to the Blythe Police Department for further investigation where he denied stealing the guns. Instead, the juvenile claimed to have received them from another person and that he was going to sell them since he needed money.

The juvenile was taken to Indio Juvenile Hall and booked for possession of stolen property and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Blythe Police Chief Steve Smith urged citizens to protect their homes and property by locking doors and windows.

"If you have firearms, please secure them in a locked gun safe," said Smith. "Also, photograph your property and log serial numbers. This makes identification and recovery of your property easier."

Smith thanked the officers for a job well done.

"Two more firearms have been taken off the streets of Blythe and will not be used to harm anyone."

Who Cares???? I can see you don't care that you don't have a brain in your head. So the kid "claims" he was going to sell the gun and ammo. Well, who do you think is going to buy it if in fact the juvinile delinquint was telling the truth. OF COURSE someone who WAS going to use it to commit a crime would buy from a 13 year old! Will you "care" if your the one shot? I was going to say or one of your loved ones but you sound so sad and pathetic I doubt you have any. I CARE and I'm glad they got the kid before someone got their hands on the gun illegally.

To "no name #1" His mother told the police he had the guns. How many moms would give their son up like that?Sounds like she wanted to do the right thing.

I can't help but be sadden at some of the input here. First and foremost, how did you #1 commentator know that a 17 year old was invovled, there was no mention of it here in this article. What is that all about? And Flabbergasted be at ease, you do not have perfect children, so no matter what you may think, you never know how your's will ultimately turn out, so please restrain from being so judgemental. Volunteering for the police department may help you understand that all children need a positive roll model. Could this perhaps be you? "FOCUS"

Funny how the 13 year old was taken to the hall and the 17 year old wasn't. How sad is that?Does BYPD show favoritisim to kids, just because their parents work in law enforcement?

Can the editor please confirm the statement of the kid being a convicted felon already. That seems a bit shocking.

Did I read this right? 13 years old and he's already a convicted felon? Publish his name so we can keep our children away from him!
