There is a book that is available to local teens that promotes success in all areas of life - health, finances, career, personal relationships and family relationships.
Success for Teens by the editors of the SUCCESS Foundation, is a book that takes real-life teens who had issues and applied the techniques of the book and have made a change in their lives.
Little Things that Matter, Attitude is Everything, You Must Use the Moment, Everything Starts with Small Steps, There's No Such Thing As Failure, Habits Are Powerful, You're Always Learning, and You Can Make Your Dreams Come True are the topics/chapters that are designed to be applied to a teen's daily life.
Each point within the chapter is backed-up with a teen's example on how they acted on the point. The chapters end with a Think About It that allows the reader to write down thoughts and feedback from their own lives.
Success for Teens was introduced to Blythe by Donald Kirby of Freedom Communities.
Freedom Communities is maintaining their tradition of "Building relationships, that create communities, that bring people together" since coming to Blythe in 2006 building The Chanslor Place community located just west of Chanslorway and Intake Blvd.
Freedom Communities has not just sold homes, they have held back-to-school giveaways, Spring Training Camps, Toys for Tots, and can food drives with the Metcalf program encouraging community participation all at no fee.
Kirby has read the book and said that the book can be applied to both teenagers and adults.
Kirby approached the Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce and Palo Verde Unified School District (PVUSD) for help in distributing the book free of charge to local youth.
PVUSD Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Jim Stier is on board and is looking for ways to get the book to students in a manner that would interest students.
"It is a good book and if we put in the library it will just gather dust," said Stier. "I think the precepts are excellent. If kids were to set-up them up, it works."
Stier, Kirby and the Chamber are exploring ways for students to get the book in their hands and read. They are possibly planning a year-end assembly with guest speakers being the teens in the book.
'There's something to this," said Kirby. "I am a big believer of having a mission and wanted to keep with the mission. The goal is to reach 10 million teens and I have made reaching one million teens or one percent my personal and organizational mission."
"The book will make kids successful for high school, college and life," said Stier.
Copies of this book and an accompanying CD are available at no charge, at The Chanslor Place office, 450 Alameda St. or at the Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce, 201 S. Broadway.
