Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Former Miss Blythe, Ariel Ramirez along with current Miss Blythe Cristina Bequer and Miss Blythe Outstanding Teen Kailey Lee host the second annual Mr. Blythe Pageant Jan. 17. This comical fundraiser event benefit the prep for the Miss California pageant for Bequer and the new Miss Blythe Outstanding Teen crowned in March; some of the proceeds also goes to Mr. Blythe Pageant co-sponsors, Palo Verde College Associated Student Government.

Competing for this year's event are Steven Valdez, Jonathan Smith, Damien Ramirez, Kahlil Harris, David Clark, Jordan Velarde, Nicolas George, Rudy Esquibel, Jose Esquibel, Austin Bennett, Dillon Smith, Jose Gaytan and Damian Cortez. Current Mr. Blythe, Ryan Reyes will crown the successor and perform for the audience.

The five phases for this year's competition include:

• Private group interview with the judges.

• Onstage question - consists of answering a funny question in front of the audience.

• Life style in swimsuit will consist of coming out in a pair of board shorts of the males' choice and doing two pushups.

• Talent - This can be almost anything. "The sky is the limit when it comes to talent. Get creative and make the audience laugh or be serious and touch our hearts. Just have fun with it," said Miss Blythe Cristina Bequer.

• Contemporary wear: the male may wear an outfit of his choice. An example would be something he would wear on a date.

The winner will receive a cash prize and bragging rights as Mr. Blythe 2014 with no obligations, but will be seen in the opening number at the 2014 Miss Blythe Outstanding Teen Pageant planned for March 1, 2014, as well at the Annual Blythe Bluegrass Festival the same weekend he is crowned Mr. Blythe.

The event will be at the Palo Verde College Performing Arts Theater. The contestants and Blythe Area Chamber of Commerce are selling tickets and are going fast.

I am only slamming thing that need to be slammed. If you feel proud about your son running for Mr. Blythe. So be it! I am PV pride that's why I write what I write. No mental toughness and we play soft. You have your opinion and I have mine! This is the new era of PV football and I comes from the top. (deleted) Coach D I am sure is not liking this!!!

PV Alumni have you nothing better to do than trash talk. You say PV alumni like you have pride. But then you slam your school. My son plays for PV football and he is tring to win Mr. Blythe, I couldn't be prouder of my son. As for my opinion of you you don't even have enough guts to put your name behind your trash talk.

Hey, you got a lot of PVHS football players trying out for this! No wonder we had trouble winning, they r more worried about looking good instead of getting down and dirty. Is this what our coaches r teaching our football players. Really this is what r football team is all about. Who is the judge coach D!! football player don't run for Mr. Blythe!! Period!!
