Referred to as “DNA for your property”, CopDots’ microdot technology enables consumers to mark their personal property.
Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Blythe Police Department introduced a new technology Nov. 20 that gives law enforcement and the community a tool to combat property theft.

Referred to as "DNA for your property", CopDots' microdot technology enables consumers to mark their personal property.

For many years, Neighborhood Watch Programs and Law Enforcement Agencies recommended property owners apply identification numbers to mark valuables. CopDots, the first of its kind technology, permanently adds personal identification markings. The pen-like applicator dispenses an adhesive containing thousands of microdots, smaller than a grain of sand. The adhesive can not be seen without special equipment so the thief wont even know if it is marked but law enforcement will.

Each microdot has a unique identification number that is registered in the CopDots law enforcement accessible database. Each pen is registered online by the owner, and no two pens have the same number. When the dots are seen under a reader the rightful owner can be identified, and the property returned and the thief can be sent to jail. Every law enforcement agency can have access to the secure database to research the ownership of the property in real time.

This technology is not just an excellent method to identify and return stolen and lost property to their rightful owners, but it will act as a deterrent to criminals that target personal property. This technology will change the way law enforcement fights property crimes.

Blythe Police Chief Steve Smith said, "Our priority is to prevent crimes, and utilizing this new technology will send a strong message to criminals that the City of Blythe is going to fight back and use the most advanced technologies available to prevent crime and convict criminals."

The MicroDot pens are available for a donation of $30 each through the Police Activities League (PAL) at the Blythe Police Department. They will also be available at Ace Hardware parking lot Christmas event December 4,5,6, and 7 from 6-9 p.m. at the Blythe Police Department booth in front of Ace Hardware.

Until the Palo Verde Valley Time changes it rules and ONLY allows people to comment using their true identity, nothing will change. People will always be Cowards and hide behind a made up log in name. There is and should always be freedom of speech. If you feel you have something to say fine JUST STOP BEING A COWARD and use your name. I bet that if the Palo Verde Valley Time required true name be used this comment section would be more productive in addressing issues.

Should you not be out there saving the world, fighting for peace and justice? So why come here to insult me does this fulfill your life's ambitions?

So in the end you have as much of a life as I do. The difference is that you use many names, and I just use one name. So no matter what spin you put into this you are probably in your (deleted)

So in the end it's you that needs to get a life. I'm content with what I'm doing. Oh I'm sorry officer.

El Pica Buyas has become the (deleted) of this web site. Constantly downing everything he/she can in terrible grammar. As I read the comments I've adjusted to just ignoring everything EPB types in hopes they will disappear. Today on Thanksgiving , I am thankful I have a life and an education because it is obvious folks out there such as EPB do not.

@EL PICA BUYAS... Can you spell check, or at least use correct grammar & punctuation while you're trying to make other people look dumb? I can barely understand your immature insults.

Cop Dots will be great!

@....just me@El Pica. The hospital, I do not go there, but a lot of people do, many want the Good Doctor out. I could careless if he going or stay's. It is you people, that should care. So if you think that shouting insults and yelling bible scriptures at him is going to make him leave. Then please continual to do so.

Remember, that God helps those that help themselves. So what I'm saying use your head as you do it. So if you people want to go all children of the corn on him please do so, and see how far that will get you.

As with the Mayor/Council, and Police Department, and other Boards in-between I say what others know on what is going on. I try to write in down without getting deleted. But when I'm Wrong, I will be the first to admitted it, even if it hurts and i feel embarrassed about it. Because if I don't my words mean nothing to me then.

As for the Police being a Grudge force, and an attack force, ask others that have been harass by them. One thing is to enforce the laws, and another thing is to abuse your power as an office of the law.

Remember I never said that I was of sound mind, but that does not mean that I'm stupid, I think that makes a bit different, than most.

@....Dr D. Gang what's the use of having these tools for getting your property back. If first they have find your property. So if your families name is not on the whose who here in Blythe, then your stuff will never be found, because they will never look for it.

So once you open your eyes, and see what others are finding out, the sooner we can get this police force heading in the right direction. Or maybe the Sheriffs Department sounds better???

These people try to cover the sun with the tip of a finger, and then claim they performed a miracle. As with others when they donate time and money. That's to hide the real motive behind their act of doing something for the people..

Dang El Pica, you are such a kill joy. Here is a cool way to locate stolen property. New technology and they are using sales of this to help the PAL program for kids. Quit being a troll. Look for the good in things, before pouncing on the bad.. I am starting to feel sorry for you, or anyone that has ever been dumb enough to love you.

Dear Police Department Instead of going into the retail business, why not try policing for once. You know like other cities do. Other cities do a gang sweep, parole violators/ probation violators, Dead beat dads/moms. You know something productive. Also you people know the dealers/ buyers, these are the people you should be looking for.

Yes go after the drunk drivers too. But lets stop this person because SHE did not use the turn-signal, plus she is hot, so lets see if I can get lucky stop. That has to go, or that stop has to stop.

Say what about this kind of stop, a stop because you made my FRIEND mad, or you did something to my family, that stop, also has to stop.

The problem we have here is, this city operates a grudge police force. (the noun type)
