BLYTHE - A North Carolina man was arrested by Blythe Police and charged with driving while intoxicated after leading police on a high-speed chase through town. The incident began around 9 p.m. on April 23 when police responded to the area of the 300 and 400 blocks of Sola and Ninth Streets, in reference to a report of a subject driving recklessly and speeding in the area.

The responding officer found the black 2009 GMC pickup traveling southbound on Ninth Street, and then across Barnard to Eighth Street, and back up to Chanslorway. The vehicle continued eastbound on Chanslorway toward Highway 95 at speeds estimated to be in excess of 100 miles per hour. The vehicle appeared to slow down as it crossed Highway 95, but failed to stop for the posted stop sign.

After crossing Highway 95, the vehicle quickly slowed down, made a U-turn, and yielded facing west on Riverside Drive. The driver, David Contreras, 33, of Cornelius, N.C., was ordered out of the vehicle and taken into custody. He was booked at the Blythe Jail.

Anyone with information regarding this is urged to contact the Blythe Police Department at 922-6111 or anonymously by calling Crime Stop at 921-CARE (2273) or by email at blythepd@cityofblythe.ca.gov.
