Special to the Times
BLYTHE - This year's "Steps for the Cure" is being held in memory of Jo Grady. A long time advocate for the services to the local cancer patients and avid supporter of the events, Grady raised money for those services for many years. In recognition of the hundreds of Beanie bears she sold to raise money for the American Cancer Society and all the wonderful people in this community who support the annual event, this year's theme is "Blythe - Beary Special People"
"Steps for the Cure" is a team or individual fundraising event to assist cancer patients in the Palo Verde Valley. This year's event is again at Scott Stadium, Palo Verde High School, 667 N. Lovekin Blvd., Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4-9 p.m.
The Candlelight Ceremony begins at dusk and luminaries may be purchased "In Honor" of survivors or "In Memory" of those lost to this terrible disease. A slide show will be presented during the candlelight ceremony to end this year's event.
The entire community is invited to come and enjoy the late afternoon and evening with Blythe Cancer Resource Center. Participants may "Step for the Cure" or just sit and visit with family and friends, enjoy the music, listen to speakers, and learn more about the vision of the Blythe Cancer Resource Center.
Food and beverages for purchase will be sold or bring your own ( no alcoholic beverages allowed). All money raised at this event remains in the community to help local patients in their fight against cancer.
All minor children attending must be accompanied by an adult or be members of a team that has adult supervision. Pets are not allowed in the stadium so please leave your sweet animals at home.
Don't forget to bring your favorite "Teddy Bear" along to carry with you in the theme lap.
