Dobbs Duffers Golf Tournament this Saturday

Jaclyn Randall
Former Times Editor

BLYTHE - Dobbs Duffers Fore Children 9th Annual Golf Tournament is this Saturday at Blythe Golf Course. This is a four-person scramble that begins at 8 a.m. and costs just $40 a person and includes lunch and golf for the day.

Space is limited so make sure you and your team are signed up by Sept. 20 at Ashley's Furniture Homestore.

There will be cash and prize giveaways during the event such as closest to the pin and hole-in-one rewards.

Dobbs Duffers is a local organization that helps local families with children in need of medical and educational assistance. Dobbs Duffers has also donated to local events and causes geared toward children, such as the annual Breakfast with Santa program, the Felix J. Appleby playground equipment drive, and high school graduate scholarships.

New this year is Blythe Fire Department's participation at the tournament. Local firefighters will be at the course with the REO fire truck so community members can come and take a picture with the fire truck and a fireman. This is open to all non-tournament participants.

In addition, the fire department will be dropping numbered golf balls from a helicopter and whichever ball gets closest to the pin will win $500. Tickets for the golf ball drop are $5 and can be purchased from any Blythe Fireman or at Palo Verde Valley Times office; tickets will also be sold the day of the event.

The fire department will also have an obstacle course putt-putt contest available, open to non-tournament participants, with the chance to receive a fireman helmet.

Proceeds from Blythe Fire Department activities go toward the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show that is free to the public.

For more information regarding the golf tournament, stop in at Ashley's Furniture Homestore, 175 N. Spring St., or for more information regarding Blythe Fire Department's golf ball drop, contact a local Blythe Fireman.
