The family of Ricardo Nava-Alamo, 62, who suffers from Alzheimer’s reported him missing three weeks ago after his family told Moreno Valley Police officers that Nava-Alamo drove away from his Moreno Valley where he lives with his daughter on the morning of Jan. 6. Riverside County Sheriff's deputies found the 1997 Honda Accord he was driving in Mesa Verde Sunday night. He remains missing.
BLYTHE, Calif - Riverside County Sheriff deputies from the Colorado River Station (Blythe) found the car of a missing 62-year-old Moreno Valley man near Blythe Way and Mesa Drive in Mesa Verde Sunday night.
The family of Ricardo Nava-Alamo who suffers from Alzheimer's reported him missing three weeks ago after his family told Moreno Valley Police officers that Nava-Alamo drove away from his home in the 24000 block of Cottonwood Avenue in Moreno Valley on the morning of Jan. 6. In the advanced stages of Alzheimer's, Nava-Alamo is considered at-risk.
Riverside County Sheriff's deputies conducted a foot search of the area, to no avail, until 3 a.m., Monday morning after finding the car stuck in the sand, keys in the ignition, and footprints around 10 p.m. the night before. At daylight, the department sent out more deputies to search by foot and a Sheriff's helicopter to search by air. Since then, deputies have continued the search by foot and have used a K-9 unit to help locate the missing man, in addition to searching in 4x4 vehicles. On Thursday, deputies sent an off-road team to search for Nava-Alamo on quads and by motorcycles.
Since finding the purple 1997 Honda Accord Nava-Alamo was last seen driving, the deputies covered several square miles surrounding the area in Mesa Verde. Since Monday, detectives from the local sheriff's station, joined by Moreno Valley Police detectives went to different businesses in Blythe and have been checking homeless campsites.
Nava-Alamo is described as a 5'2" tall, Hispanic man, weighing approximately 180 pounds. He has grey hair, brown eyes, and a grey mustache. He was last seen wearing a blue sweater over a V-neck, purple with black stripes, blue jeans, and white shoes.
