Four inmates face additional charges after attacking or having a part in planning an attack on Sheriff deputies at Blythe Jail early Sunday morning.
Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Four Blythe jail inmates face additional charges ranging from attempted murder to attempted escape after Riverside County Sheriff's Department accuses them of attacking or helping plan the attack on four Riverside County Sheriff deputies early Sunday morning.

Riverside County Sheriff Colorado River Station (Blythe) identified the following four inmates as involved in the incident and now face criminal charges in the attack against the deputies ranging from attempted murder, attempted escape, conspiracy, and assaulting/injuring a peace officer while serving time in a correctional facility.

• Fabian Florence Perez, 30, from Indio.

• Joseph Roy Scott, 25, from Indio.

• Louie Aguilar, 33, from Blythe.

• David Gazcon Jr., 34, from Desert Hot Springs.

Three of the inmates previously have been accused of murder and await trials.

Perez has been accused of shooting and killing an Indio taxi driver during a 2003 robbery. Law enforcement officials accuse Scott of killing his 3-week-old son in 2008. Gazcon awaits trial after being accused of a gang-related murder in 2004.

Now the accused are being blamed for attacking two sheriff deputies as the deputies performed security checks of the inmate cells at Blythe Jail around 2:20 a.m. on Dec. 29. Two other deputies came to help the first two deputies and ended up in a physical fight with the attacking inmates, which led to the deputies who responded also getting hurt.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's office, in total, four Sheriff's deputies were seriously hurt and were sent to Palo Verde Hospital for treatment. Sheriff officials locked down the jail and no inmates escaped.

Officers from the Blythe Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the sheriff's Colorado River Station (deputies and investigators) responded and assisted jail personnel.

This is an active investigation. Anyone with information about this incident can call Investigator Morelock at (760) 921-7900.

We ought to call you Mrs. Cravitz... now that's old school.

RCSO, great job you guys and keep doing the job you're doing, keeping citizens safe, even though it appears many Blytheians really don't want to be. Also, I really wish some people who comment on this site would please, please, learn to write, spell and maybe even use proper grammar. Try to remember you're not texting your homies.

@....To All. You know I don't like the Blythe Police Department. Out of that department you have about a handful that are good. I'm not saying that the officers are corrupt.

But I will say this, some of them go over board when they do not like someone or their family they will not let those people off the hook. They make their job personal.

Even then I do not wish them harm, or for someone else to hurt them. For you to wish the sheriffs officers harm you must have done something very bad while you were in jail and you got punished for it.

Liberals in jury's, Liberal Judges, ACLU, NAMBLA, Code Pink, Eric Holder's Office, POTUS, Hillary Clinton, etc... In a nut shell, just about any garden variety Liberal will have mercy on people like that and will blame Law Enforcement. If this would have occurred in CDCR, smart money would say that approximately 80% of the Administrators (And that is being very generous to Administrators) would say that the inmates conduct and behavior was reactionary.... I'm just say'n..............

Article comment by: @ Christine Garvey:

If my memory serves me well, I believe back about 12-13 years ago or so, the District Attorney's Office in Indio put together a team who's core and sole purpose was to investigate and put the facts of the case together to prosecute the dregs of society that assault peace officers. Plea Agreements were not in their vocabulary Swift Justice Under the Color of Authority was their Creed and the accused felt the Full Weight of the Law... (I don't know if that team is still in business to fight crime or if they fell victims to budget cuts.) Godpeed to you and your family Ms. Christine Garvey, as well as all the other, "Peace Keepers that Supervise the Incarcerated."
Sincerely,

My daughters are both deputies.. One for Riverside. I do not understand how the county could allow this to happen to these deputies ONLY four deputies to take care of level five inmates . Some of these deputies will never return to work again. My concern is for the safety of the law enforcement personnel. No one seems to care about them. When I heard the extent of this attack it made me sick. I am praying for the deputies who need to heal and for the whole department. I hope the sheriff steps up and does the right thing and gets enough people in this facility to make it a safe place to work.

The first thing that you might want to take into consideration my young Padawon Learner, is to show, "A Lil Nugget of Courage" by posting your comments under your real name. Don't anonymously hide under the veil of the moniker "Beyond Belief" (That would be a good and sound start). That would be an example of put'n your money where your mouth is and walking the walk and not just talking that LONG poopy-talk. -----> I'm just say'n.....
PS: On an unrelated note: F. F, Perez looks like this South Sider that was on my Perimeter Crew that labored for the state on the Three Yard back in the day. His name was Perez too, and he also hid under the veil of the moniker, "Lil' Happy". I believe Lil' Happy represented West Side Verdugo though. Might not be the same criminal.
Sincerely,
Richard Teskey

Scum, the thing that upsets me the most is the smirk on Scott's face. If I had the chance I'd like to meet him face to face put (deleted) against his head and watch him cry like a baby. As for the rest of them... the punishment should fit the crime, 25 to life. PERIOD! End of discussion.
