BLYTHE - Border Patrol agents arrested two armed men Tuesday for transporting a combined $275,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine.

Agents stopped a Ford F-150 near Interstate 10 and Intake Boulevard to investigate the suspicious behavior of its two occupants. With the help of a canine unit, agents located nearly 17 pounds of methamphetamine and 7.5 pounds of cocaine hidden in the truck. The driver, a United States citizen with an extensive criminal history, was also carrying a loaded handgun. The other man was a Mexican national.

Both subjects, along with the vehicle, narcotics and firearm, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

In a separate incident, Border Patrol agents near Gila Bend, Ariz., found 65 pounds of abandoned marijuana worth an estimated $32,500. This was turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

The Border Patrol's Yuma Sector effectively combats smuggling organizations attempting to transport contraband through southwestern Arizona. Citizens can help the Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection by calling 1-866-999-8727 toll-free to report suspicious activity. Callers can remain anonymous.
