Sheriff's Department seeks missing man
Leslie J Kennedy

BLYTHE - Family members say that Leslie J Kennedy has been missing for over 11 days and needs to be found. Kennedy is 37, about 6'4", red facial hair and a bald head. He was last heard from on Aug. 17 and his car, phone and belongings were found abandoned alongside Interstate 10 in Blythe.

"He is a hardworking man with five beautiful children and this is not something he would do," said his sister, Mickey Albo.

Albo said that Blythe Police refused to take a report and told her to file a report in San Diego, where Kennedy lived.

Albo contacted the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and a foot search in the desert where Kennedy's car was found abandoned on the I-10. On Thursday after the weather cleared, a sheriff's department helicopter was sent up and a body was discovered though it was awaiting positive ID.

"Please, this man is my brother, father, friend, child and if your child or parent was missing he would be the first to do it for you," Albo said. "Please call 619-436-7848. My brother would never just leave unannounced for a long period of time. He helps care for my grandmother and talks to her almost everyday and he missed her birthday, which has never happened.

Albo said her father (his step father) has been very ill for over a year and Kennedy drops everything and flies 1,500 miles to see him every time he turns for the worst.

"He has five beautiful children that he loves dearly and has coached their sports teams and attends as many games as he can," Albo said. "He is a hardworking union man who has always worked hard. He is the first person anyone would call in the middle of the night because he is always willing to help his friends and family. For him to be missing this long without any contact, something is very wrong."

Article comment by: It is a sad state of affairs

I know there are some good people in the Police Department, and I know there are some honest people working at the hospital. I it a sad state of affairs, though, when the "leaders" of these places are such (deleted), and are more concerned with personal vendettas when it is made know just how lousy these areas really are. That includes the managing of our city. And we are in BIG doo-doo, since they are now in cahoots with one another. Our poor city doesn't have a chance with these vicious people at the helm.

Article comment by: Never Call

Never call the BLYTHE police dept. if you need help, always call the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept., they will drop what they are doing and help as much as they can because they are caring people. Blythe PD is just there for a pay check. Very said situation. I hope and pray that the body is not him and he turns out ok.

@ Update Needed, If they were willing to help they would have said, we will be right there to check it out but instead they said, CALL SAN DIEGO AND MAKE A REPORT.

This man is my brother, Thank you all for your support and prayers. We have no word if the body found is his yet, but I'm praying it isn't.

May we have an update on the identity of the body that was found? Was it this missing man or some other that Blythe PD couldn't be bothered with? Of course, the article doesn't say BPD wasn't willing to help they just didn't want to take the report.

Blythe PD is very lazy. Rather than going by and seeing how they can help his sister and filing a report, they say to file it in San Diego. This is wrong. It can be filed in Blythe. This is what happens when you have a reactive PD instead of a pro-active PD. I won't get into the crime issues as the result of being reactive instead of proactive.

My family is praying for a safe return for your family member. I know the hurt and anxiety your are feeling and my heart breaks for you. I am sorry for the time you had to waste getting the authorities involved but you can count on Riverside Sheriff's to do all they can. If I still lived in the area I promise I would scour the desert until you had answers. God bless you all in this difficult time and may you all be safely reunited.
