Wrong-way driver on I-10 causes six vehicle crash
Special to the Times

Vicki Tarble, 50, of Blythe, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs causing injury after police allege she drove a 2004 Hummer H2 the wrong way on the I-10 Freeway.

Tarble was said to be driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-10 west of Wiley's Well Road, when she approached a 27-year-old Canoga Park woman driving a Mitsubishi Montero eastbound in the eastbound lane. A third driver, identified only as a 64-year-old Waxahachie, Texas resident driving a Kenworth tractor towing a flatbed trailer, was eastbound in the number two lane.

When the Canoga Park woman saw the Hummer approaching her, she swerved to the right but Tarble struck her, causing the Montero to spin out of control and overturn. The Hummer continued and spun out of control in the number two lane where it struck the left side of the conventional tractor being driven by the Texas man. This impact severely damaged the left side fuel tank and drive wheels of the tractor, leaving the driver unable to maintain control of the tractor, which drove off the roadway and onto the tdirt shoulder south of the freeway lanes, jackknifing in the open desert area south of the freeway.

Debris from the severe impacts struck a Toyota Yaris being driven by a 54-year-old Blythe man, a Volvo C30 driven by a 58-year-old Los Angeles woman, and a conventional tractor and trailer combination being driven by a 43-year-old Temecula man, all three of which were being driven on I-10 eastbound.

As a result of the impact between Tarble and the Texas man, the left side fuel tank on the tractor ruptured and began leaking diesel fuel onto the dirt/sand.

After her arrest, Tarble was released into the care of Desert Regional Medical Center.

Do you have an update on how the injured are doing? I was one of many vehicles east bound that was stuck on the freeway as a result of this accident. When I was finally able to resume my trip, the accident scene looked very serious. I was sure there was loss of life, and major injuries as a result of it.

The whole thing is unfortunate for all the people involved. Sad thing is that there is no real help or accountability in Blythe for people that get a DUI. The Local program mandated by the court for all offenders to take is a JOKE. Offenders gather weekly to spread gossip and joke with the counselor, (deleted)

@JUST A THOUGHT medication doesn't put you over the legal limit and if there was a chance the prescription would state no to drive while taking them. I get it that most people defending this person no doubt know this person. Real names or not it won't change anything or anyone's opinion. It's not even about people being perfect. Just remember when you react you are drawing yourself into a verbal fight. Listen to what people tell you and don't read any of these comments if there is a chance you will not like what you read. Let's be honest even the people who do not like these comments have talked about others one way or another in the past.

Just to put it out there, a DUI isn't always related to alcohol or "illegal" drugs. The side effects of cold/flu and prescription medications can cause you to be cited for a DUI. Sometimes the effects occur hours after having consumed the medication. Just my thoughts.

Ya ya "Blythe native" we get it! I find it amazing how much crap some people have to say about rights and wrongs but don't have the decency to put their "REAL NAME" out there!

The fact remains, she went the WRONG WAY on the freeway, and even if you like her a lot, she still risked innocent lives. Drunk drivers need to be dealt with, (deleted)

Article comment by: Dearest Darion,

I suggest you try not to read the published comments because there are incredibly ignorant comments, people tend to state un-educated opinions as facts, don"t think what they say, are overly impulsive and the list goes on. The stupidity is just off the charts! So please stay away from forums & comment sections. Stay strong, this had nothing to do with you!

This comment is for Darion Riggert...Sweetie, a tiger doesn't lose sleep over the opinion of sheep. These people post comments like this hiding behind "screen names" because they are too gutless to stand behind their words. These type of people are beneath you. I don't know you or your mom but keep walking with your held high, right over the top of these people.

Everyone knows when you do something against the law and it's published n the newspaper you are going to get talked about. It's not a matter of what the details are or the love for your mother. Once something goes public it's easy to be a target. The hospital does draw blood after instances like this and the BAC will come out. If the results show she should not of been driving to begin with, any details after she started the vehicle and put it "drive" doesn't matter. Anything after that point could of been avoided. Welcome to the show!

We get it already! Enough is enough. Those that are guilty will have their day in court and have it on their souls the rest of their life. Enough pain has already been caused and we do not know the whole story. Give it a break people
