BLYTHE - A parked semi tractor-trailer was rear-ended by another semi at 5 a.m. on March 22.

Jose Moreno was driving a tractor-trailer in tow with a 2006 Wabash trailer eastbound in the right lane and approaching a parked semi driven by Luis Perez. Perez had parked his 2006 Volvo and 1982 Hobbs trailer onto the right shoulder of eastbound Interstate 10, just west of the Riviera Drive off-ramp when, for unknown reasons, Moreno allowed his vehicle to veer to the right of his lane onto the right shoulder, striking Perez's trailer and truck several times as the vehicle continued east.

Moreno's semi immediately became engulfed in flames as it passed the parked Volvo and trailer.

Perez's big rig continued traveling to the right and off the roadway and down a dirt embankment, through the perimeter fence, coming to rest upright on Donlon St., blocking both lanes of traffic.

Both Moreno and Perez were able to exit from their vehicles without sustaining any injuries. Blythe City Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire from Moreno's truck and trailer. Perez's semi sustained moderate damage while Moreno's was a total loss as a result of the collision and fire.

The accident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol-Blythe Area office.
